Hello all, it's been quite a while since I last posted but thought it was time to do it again.

I have pretty much accepted the fact that my skin is severely sun damaged and has been this way for about two plus years now. It's not going away, it's not going to change all too much and trust me it's UGLY! I have begun to notice newer darker patches where before there were none, and also areas that have gotten substantially "lighter" but not "white" lighter, just ugly overall yellowy.

Getting to my question, how many of you (if any) have started off using full strength Retin A to encourage peeling of the icky skinned areas, full strength every night to encourage quick peeling? I am starting to wonder if I DO need something that strong to get this looking better and more even at least? If I can describe it, it looks much like a "jigsaw" puzzle in which all of the pieces are very different in color (and texture/color in some places). Some "patches/areas" are lighter (under my eyes/upper cheeks is MUCH lighter), whereas others are very red (lower cheeks nose and chin), others are very very brown looking (half of my forehead is nearly completely covered with brown patches but only on one side), my chin has a stubborn brown patch, and my cheeks? Well let's just they are a lovely (NOT!) combination of all of the mixed colors where some areas are one, some are a mottled mess of the other, I think you probably get what I mean.

I have used Retin A in the past as part of the Obagi regimen, and was pleased the first time I did when I did begin to peel in those darker/ugly areas (and after six weeks with makeup I was definitely seeing that "glow" of dewy). However, I am a wimp and chickened out after starting and stopping several times since then (with Obagi, the whole system) especially after a few months ago where I seemed to have a terrible reaction to the Exfoderm Forte, which made me look severely burned after a few applications (ANd I DO mean BURNED like I was in a fire, it was sooooooooo red!).

Sorry I am going in all directions. I am so sick of dealing with this damn unevenness that I really want fairly quick results from something very strong/full strength. Would using Retin A alone (with no other product/blender, Obagi except for Clear in mornings) be the way to go? I WANT to start PEELING and I don't care how ugly THAT looks, it is the only way this will ever look any better. I have two tubes of RA that are still "in date" but will expire in early to mid-2014 and want to put them to use before that happens (had to pay out of pocket and can't afford to buy more like that I have no health insurance right now, nor doctor).

Anyone else with severe sun damage on the face that led to horrible uneven pigment and how did you or do you treat it? And yes before anyone suggests it, I DO use sunblock every single day, an spf of 50 no matter the weather so that is well covered/protected to prevent FURTHER damage. (Sigh)....I am soooo sick of dealing wth this and being told LASERS are the only way to go! ONe, I cannot ever afford the downtime OR the cost of lasers and two, I dont' currently have an estethician or derm, (also cannot afford that esp. a derm with no insurance at present).

The sun on your skin condition looks very serious, I do not know why it will last two years not been restored. I have also had a sunburn, the entire skin redness peeling. Later, I have been using aloe vera gel to help the skin recover. Entire skin about 4 months later completely restored to normal.I hope a speedy recovery for your skin.
