Hey
I just started using skinceuticals c+e serum and B5 gel about a week ago. I also started using Laura Merciers moisturizing foundation about the same time. My skin is so incredibly broke out, it is my TOM but my skin hasn't really broken out since I started Obagi and Retin-A last May. Has anyone had similar reactions to either of these products? Is it just an initial phase or what?!? I'm freaking out, my skin was looking really great and now it looks horrible! Any ideas? TIA |

Hi Gena, *yikes* It's always troubling when you start on some new products and your skin goes wacky. How does you skin respond to the C? What strength of serum are you using? Is there redness that doesn't subside shortly after application? If so, then perhaps you are having a reaction to the C -or you've started out with too powerful a concentration. If so, then there is a good chance that the moisturizing foundation is exascerbating the problem. If your skin seems fine with the C then perhaps the Mercier foundation is just too rich for your skin (I don't happen to be a fan of Mercier foundation - do you need a moisturizing foundation?). Since your skin is reacting, I'd stop using both products, go back to what works best for you and then when your skin calms, reintegrate the C (as long as it isn't too high a concentration- you should start at around 10). If all goes well, then try your foundation again... and if either is the culprit you'll find out then......It could also be that your other treatment products are conflicting with your new products....At any rate, I'd go back to what I know, and then integrate the new products one at a time and see what happens.
Good luck!

Hi Gena
I am sorry to hear about the breakout.
It may a combination of both, but I suspect it is Vit C+E more. The concentration in Vit C+E is 15% which is quite high for a first time user. I remember mine broke out in little bumps all over. For first time sensitive skin users, it is better to start with either 7.5% or 10% max. I'd be careful since you are also using Retin-A.
Pudoodles is right - you need to stop using both and get your skin back to its original condition first. Introduce Vit C+E on alternate days, and see how it goes.
Don't worry, your skin will normalise soon - my breakout from Vit C subsided after about a week. However, that has not stopped me from using Vit C. I persevere and have not regretted since.
Cheers

The LM foundation made me break out as well. And I hardly ever break out. |

Hi I'm thinking it really started with Mercier foundation too, I started breaking out a little a couple days after I got it, then added the c+e a couple days later which probably just made it worse being so strong. Aughhh!!! My skin rarely breaks out anymore since I've started Obagi and Retin A but even before then it was nothing like this, and I really don't have very sensitive skin at all. I'll toss the foundation and try alternating days with the c after my skin calms down. Thanks a bunch for all your replies. |
