I've been told I have congested skin due to lack of adequate hydration and the elements in my city's atmosphere. I notice I get more congestion when I eat a great deal of candy too. Skin experts have also stated that my skin looks a bit dry but on closer inspection, it's congested especially on my nose & cheeks. It feels dry but gets oily too. Why would this be? Also, what can I do to improve my skin?
Thank you. |

There are no skin experts.
Its that simple.Skin is an elimination organ. The largest. When you get oily skin or dry then you know you should abstain from this food or combination of foods.
I have found a good alternative to bread .
Salads produce no inflamation.
Fruits too. Some nuts are terrible for the skin ,especially the really salty, some though are good sources of ammino acids.
Bad combination is wheat and meat,so acid forming.Eat them seperate.
My skin tells me that eggs are also terrible
and acid forming.
Things to help with skin congestion: orange juices, boar bristle brushing, facial exercises and massage .There are others too that i forget. |

Skin is NOT an "elimination organ". Skin is a Protective Organ.
If you look up "skin as a protective organ" you will get trusted websites like WebMD. If you look up "skin as an elimination organ", you get all sorts of 'alternative medical' stuff but nothing reputable.
Dry skin can be caused by the environment. Talk to people who live in places where the winter weather is extreme. The dryness they experience has absolutely nothing to do with what they've been eating. |

Could it be that you have combination skin?
Years ago, I used Erno Laszlo line and they had regimens that you could follow that were supposed to address issues like combination skin. There was a pre-wash oil you applied to dry areas and at night there was a chalky control lotion you applied to the oily areas. Here's an example.
As you can see, it was not a cheap program...which is why my cheap butt isn't on it. When I started the oil cleansing method and plain water washes, my skin seemed to just even out on its own. I do try to eat well and I do take essential fatty acid supplements and I've been working on drinking water which I believe help with dry skin.
But hopefully people who are skincare pros can come and help. |

I am not doing very well with links today. I was trying to get the Erno Laszlo link to show the 12:00 O'Clock regimen as an example
Let's try this again: Link |

I think this is because the skin is not enough moisture.
You can try use moisture mask to enhance the skin. |

Its both.
Also i believe it is well known and well felt by more and more persons that the reputation of a theory doesnt mean it is correct or not.
And you are right about weather messing up with skin moisture. But its not the only factor. There are others: chlorine contaminated water, unbalance between sodium/potassium aka diet and problems in thermoregulation can also lead to dryness or oily skin. |

You can have dehydrated skin (lack or water) and oily skin (too much oil). Try a hyaluronic serum to add water and not oil. |

Oil actually works on the skin to hold moisture in and not allow it to escape. If you have very dry skin, you may want to use a hyaluronic acid serum immediately after washing (while your skin is still damp) and then follow that with an oil. That should help get moisture back into your skin. |

I believe the skin reflects what we eat and how we treat our body. You are what you eat.
You have to work out what suits your body best but given that candy has no goodness, only lots of sugar and possibly GMO corn syrup it will not make your skin look nice. I agree with Pangloytis that a healthy diet can do wonders.
When I went gluten-free and switched to a low histamine diet my skin rashes, oily sheen and acne completely stopped. Now I have clear, soft skin. |

I've noticed that my foundation causes more inflammation - as in - when I'm not wearing foundation, my skin isn't inflamed. Very few of the raised bumps. More dryness and milia on nose, under eye area ad chin. The whiteheads are few around the face. The angry inflammation is not visible. As mentioned, high sugar intake causes the inflammation as well. |

You should drink at least 8 cups of water(at least)eat a clean diet, antioxidants, do yoga and protect the skin with a sunblock. |
