Hey all,

I recently had an eczema flare up on my legs and after scratching (bad, I know) I ended up with hyperpigmentation. I've resolved the eczema and the skin has lightened up on its own but I want to speed up the process. I've used glycolic chemical peels on my face and it's worked out great for me. I was wondering if I could do the same on my legs? I was thinking of starting with 40%. If it helps, I'm a black female with light brown skin. Thanks !

Hey Lala,

Are you sure it's "hyperpigmentation", and not just that the eczema is still healing, and the darker spots just haven't resolved yet?

I'm just thinking that if you use that fairly aggressive peel on your legs, you might open yourself up for major hyperpigmentation. For sure you'd need to be vigilant with sunscreen.

Hopefully someone knowledgeable about peels will chime in for you.

I don't think this is a good idea. Try something much lighter, like 15% and move very slowly.

I heard that lactic acid makes for a gentle, yet effective, peel. Perhaps, that might be something worth considering.

Hi Kassy,

I'm pretty positive the eczema is gone. It's been about four months since I've scratched/had an eczema flare up and the skin is smooth, which I gather must be my regular skin.

Body peels should be lighter than peels you use on your face. And yes, lactic would be a good one to start with. And lactic over 5% will correct pigment.
