| Under my sunblock? Are there any side effects like hyperpigmentation? I heard Rosehip is not phototoxic but still...just wondering if it's a good idea. Thank You! |

| I was just catching up on some older posts. I noticed that Fawnie said that rosehip seed oil should not be worn during the day (no UV exposure), only at night. The reason why is because when UV light strikes it, she said it generates reactive oxygen species. I can't say that I'm not surprised...after all, the oil has a high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids which are easier to oxidize. |

I use Trilogy Rosehip Oil and the company's FAQs state:
"Rosehip oil is perfectly safe to use on your skin during the day. It has a similar pH level to that of our own skin, so absorbs quickly leaving no trace of oil. As always, we do recommend applying a SPF product 15-20 minutes before leaving your house to ensure your skin is protected from the sun." |

This is the chart showing sunlight stability of various commonly used oils in skincare. Its in German.
Mixing an unstable oil with a stable oil may help stabilize it, but sunscreens do not confer 100% blockage of UVR so I wouldnt trust it.
One of my favorite oils is plum oil; its profile is like apricot oil but it has a fragrance like plums and is light and semistable to UVR. Gives a wonderful slip to lip balms and feels lovely on the skin. |
