I'm using eltaMD spf lotion for daily wear outside. It has nice texture and good ingredients for sun protection, but nothing else useful. What antioxidant and may be some other good things can I add to it? The pH is around 6. Thanks!

Adding something to it will dilute the spf. I use an antioxidant serum UNDER sunscreen. |

I figured If I added a tbs or two of something potent, it will not change the lotion that much. Plus there isn't really a need for spf 30 during Canadian winter anyway:) I have at hand some Ferulic Acid used for C-serum, do you think I can add it to the lotion without adding alcohol? I was also thinking about just brewing some strong green tea and adding it, but I can't think of a way to make it concentrated enough. |

Sounds like your gonna do it regardless of the advice, but here's my 2 cents. Considering the fact that a quality sunscreen is the #1 ant-aging product one can use, why would you want to mess with that and likely lessen the protection? Like Fawnie said, an antioxidant serum such as CE Ferulic or others is best to use under the sunscreen. There are even oils with very high antioxidant content you can use. Urucum and Buriti are 2 high on the list which are seldom talked about. I would be more concerned with the fact that your sunscreen is rather low on the percentage of zinc (7%). I personally would use no less than 15%. |

All the sunscreens with higher zinc percentage make me look very white:( I use a different lotion during summer though, and have a proper beach sunscreen, both with much more zinc. Thank you for the advice! These oils look very interesting! |

Thank you for the link! I will look into this sunscreen:) I like that it contains some VOO for antioxidant.
I still want to finish the bottle of my elmaMD lotion before buying a new one though. I read that CoQ 10 and its artificial alternative are one of the most potent antioxidants available. If I add 0.1% (recommended dosage) of it to my lotion, how can it possibly decrease the value of sun protection? I'm not sure if CoQ is the best option though. |
