And how much trial and error was involved, and how did you go about finding products (ie--recommendations, reviews, reading labels, etc)?
Also, what are some of your favorite brands? |

Still looking My favorites evolve constantly. It has never been a static process. I look everywhere for recs; on-line, a discount store 10 miles from my house has close-outs and overstocks. I've found some real gems there. - My favorite skincare/gadget ones are from Toby and others are from EDS in general. I have followed through on some makeup recs from you tubers but usually they are not so great. (some yes, others no). Most things I find are by accident or trial and error. If I see something recommended I usually research other places: makeupalley, and other reviews before I go forth!
My favorites are all over the map:
My favorite lipliner is from Revlon... My favorite eye pencil is from an organic line called Vapour. Favorite blush (esposed) from Tarte, Favorite eyeshadows - wouldn't know where to start - maybe MAC, some Bobbi Brown, Lorac... Lipstick - I love everything! Revlon butters are so nice though for a great price.
Does anyone have a particular line that they gravitate to? |

I just enjoy makeup. I love sopping for it (online or in store); trying it for the first time, receiving packages in the mail and reading about it.
I have a lot of mineral makeup. I have been buying for over ten years.
I also enjoy buying from Walmart (Hard Candy and Wet and Wild) and Shoppers Drug Mart.
The one item I am always hoping to improve upon:
mascaraI like Blinc (available here at EDS) but would like to find a curling mascara. I had one that I liked from Avon but it is discontinued.
Any suggestions on a mascara that helps curl lashes? |

Shadows: Chanel is my go-to brand after so much trial and error and heaps of failures.Love the creamy consistency of their quads and their blendability. Chanel 'Safari' single is also a staple.
Lippie: too many favorites to mention but my favorite gloss is just a cheap-o Meijer brand thats a dupe for Chanel glossimer. Or I use a lip liner all over and just swoosh on the gloss over it.
Foundation: I only use a dusting of mineral makeup over sunscreen now. Lucy Minerals is nice and the color Cream is spot-on for me. It works as concealer over any spots too.
Blush: Laura Mercier Second Skin Lush Nectarine. Lots of failures but this is the one I always go to.
Mascara: Tarantino Fleur de Lash in Black. I use it wiggled into the lash line as my tightline liner now. Easy peasy.
Yeh lots of experimentation but these are my favorites now. |

I was fine with all kinds of makeup until I hit my 50's.
For now I am really liking Skinn Cosmetics. The mineral powder does not get a funky shine, it doesn't make me itch or dry out. ( I only use a little over sunscreen also.) I even like the BB cream to some degree. I think it is better for skin that isn't as dry as mine.
The makeup in the line in all is supposed to be skin treatment as well as a makeup. I buy kits when they are offered at a good price. |

I like Origins and Lancôme. I'm always looking too. On the hunt now for a long lasting organic lipstick that isn't a lot of money. |

The right cosmetics always change, as we age. I like a natural look, so I use light foundations and tinted mositurizers. But, I'm always open to new and better products.
Foundations/TMs: Make Up For Ever Face & Body foundation, Laura Mercier TM, Amore Pacific TM and my most recent find IT Cosmetics CC Cream
Blush: Tarte Cheek Stain, NARS Orgasm, a few Clinique blushers (I like Clinique, I think it's an under-rated line for clean, wearable, real color, at fair prices)
Eyeshadow: I think high end products are often best for my aging eyelids, in that they usually use more finely milled pigments that won't settle into fine lines. I use Chantecaille, and Burberry eyeshadow.
Mascara: Clinique Naturally Glossy Mascara
Eyeliner: Laura Mercier Tight Liner, and a variety of pencil liners from different brands ranging from Sephora to Vincent Longo.
Bronzer: NARS Laguna, Too Faced Chocolate Soleil. Both are excellent, look natural and don't make me look orange or red.
Concealer: Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness
I never wear ALL of this at once I often just wear concealer, or bronzer, and sometimes just wear eyeliner and not shadow...but whatever I choose to wear, my goal is always to keep it natural looking. |
