I have been using MUAC's 40% lactic acid peel weekly on my face and neck. I use their 3% Salicylic Acid first to remove any oils and help the peel work better. MUAC said that I could use the peel for 8 weeks and take a peel break for 2-3 weeks, then start the cycle again.
So I'm on week 8 of 8. I follow the instructions of both SA and peel to the letter each and every time. I have had no problem during the first 7 weeks other than some peeling which lasts for 1-2 days. But for some reason, yesterday's peel left me with burns around my nose, the corner of my mouth, and on my neck. The nose and mouth ones have already faded, but there's red/brown scabbing on several areas on my neck.
Has this or something similar happened to any other lactic acid peel users? I can't understand what could have caused it, especially as I haven't done anything different yesterday than what I've been doing for weeks 1-7.
Thanks in advance. |

I don't recall, but it does not surprise me to read this.
I think our skin goes through a cycle. Personally, every spring I can get sensitive due to start of allergy season and continues on into the summer due to being outside in direct sunlight and swimming a lot that the sunscreen came off in the water. I can get a flush from being out in the sun.
Those are the times when my skin can get dry and I usually get regular microdermabrasion treatment done with a follow-up of lactic acid peel. Then my regular use of retin-a (not using that anymore and on Differin)
Sometimes you have to "listen" to your skin and know when to back off or if you really need it due to clogged up pores, you might have to get a serum to help keep your skin calm. I intend to buy a bottle for this new season.
I would love to know what you end up doing, but I can tell you that I regret taking a long break from using lactic acid peel, so I wouldn't give up on it. |

Except for what happened yesterday, I love what the lactic acid has done for my skin--it's helped fade some melasma/hyperpigmentation and has started to help improve my skin's texture...though the first month was all about the infamous "purging" syndrome.
I'm definitely going to take a break from the acids for a couple of weeks to let my skin recover. Afterwards, I think I may scale the frequency of the lactic acid peels back to every other week, though I may continue to use the 3% Salicylic Acid weekly. I'll do that for another 8-week session and see what happens there.
In the meantime, I'm slathering on tons of argan oil at night and wearing plenty of sunblock--as well as my broad-brimmed hat--during the day. |

Does argan oil clog pores? |

It's a 2 on the comedogenecity (sp?) scale, but I've never had a problem with it on my skin. I've been using it for about 2 years now.
I use an unrefined, cold-pressed version with minimal processing and no added fragrance. It's made by Saadia Organics. I think that makes all the difference, because many of the posts I've read on the web about argan oil causing skin problems have been due to people using cheaper oils or Josie Maran (I do love her products, just not her argan oil). |

I think I know someone who love Josie Maron argan oil.
I'm not sure if I want to try it. I have to admit, I am disappointed that EDS does not sell Kate Sommerville here anymore.
Now that my skin is changing, I wanted to get the milk moisturizer for daily use and then use MUAC lactic peel for additional kick when needed. |
