So, I've never used a Microdermabrasion Kit (although I've had the real thing done) and after reading up about them on the forum I thought I'd give it a whirl! Very Happy I bought the L'Oreal Refinish (inexpensive so why not) and a friend and I had a girls day in which we pampered ourselves. I was a little nervous because I know the real thing can leave my face pretty red and also because of an article I read in Dermatology Times. Here's the link (it talks about how your skin can become abnormally sensitive when using chemical peel kits but I associate it with the microdermabrasion kits too):
http://www.dermatologytimes.com/dermatologytimes/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=140969

Anyway, as for my review of the product:

The directions say to use a nickle sized amount and rub it in circular motions for about two minutes. The solution feels very granular and exfoliating on the skin. I think my skin is pretty sensitive and I could only last a little over a minute rubbing the cream around my face. This is because the granulars started irritating my face as well as the chemicals that are in the cream base. My face did become a little red and the 2nd step (microdermabrasion moisturizer) did take the redness away. I wonder, however, if I could have used my own moisturizer and whether or not the moisturizer included in the kit is really necessary.

Overall conclusion: My face did feel nice and smooth. Nothing beats a real microdermabrasion, but there was a definite glow after the 'procedure.' I probably will only use this spontaneously (and not the 2-3 times a week it says...yikes Shock), but it's not a bad product. I'm sure there are better ones out there (any suggestions?), but for an inexpensive microdermabrasion...it's a good one to try. Very Happy

Thanks for the review misskoslow. I think this has *just* made it to Australia and I'm considering giving it ago (I haven't tried microdermabrasion before).

I agree with you!!! I find it to be every bit as good as Dr. Brandt's Microdermabrasion in a jar at a fraction of the cost.

I got a sample of a product called crystal peel from skin-etc.com It did a great job on my skin. It said to rub it onto dry skin but I did it damp because I'm sensitive. I've also heard good things about the one Avon puts out, but haven't personally tried it.

The Neostrata equivalent is pretty good as well! Another inexpensive winner for me is the Serious Skin C Extreme Results!

I just bought the L'Oreal one too and found that it is a lot more abrasive whilst you are using it than the Avon one is. My skin went quite red too... mind you, they do tell you to only do it at night so they must be expecting this reaction! I thought the Step 2 Moisturiser part was a bit too greasy for my skin too and since they say to use it at night, it is odd that it contains an SPF. Maybe they want you to use it in between as well? The notion of needing more sun protection after "Microdermabrasion" is a sensible one of course and they are no doubt trying to be "responsible".

I think I prefer the Avon one actually... never thought I would say that! If I hadn't been using the Avon Microfoliant first, I would have been more impressed with the L'Oreal one I guess, just a very direct comparison. Avon's is definitely as effective at smoothing etc but has what seem like smaller sandgrain size like crystals in it and rinses a bit easier. Smile

I have to agree the Avon one is excellent. And as stated in previous posts the grains are real tiny. This product leaves your skin feeling smooth after use. Not a bad price to is around £12 but when on special it is £8.
How do i know this cause i'm a Avon lady.

I have also tried this kit and was in love with the results. I really didn't experince any redness or problems with my skin but my stuff is tuff. Laughing

I often get congestion on my forehead and this kit cleared that right up.

I tried this one too, (Lóreal) and thought it was quite nice. Nothing spectacular, though.
I will stick to my personal favorite, which is Md Formulations face and body scrub. I always keep getting back to this one, it does wonders for my skin and lasts forever too... Very Happy

I've been using one from Philosophy that I really like. It leaves my skin so soft and glowing pink....not red or irritated. I think it is called "the greatest love". (I'm too lazy to go check!!) I think the ingredients in the L'oreal would be too irritating for me, so I am hesitant to try.

What is the difference between microdermabrasion and normal face scrub? Does your face becomes more sensitive to the sun (thus freckles) since it becomes thinner?
In what condition does your skin need microdermabrasion? Many thanks.
