Hi! This is my first post here, though I have read topics here that I've found via google. Although I am not a skincare and makeup newbie, I am just delving into the anti-aging realm. I turned 40 last month and thought my skin was looking pretty good, my biggest concern was fading hyperpigmentation from old acne and preventing the occasional blemish from forming. THen we had family portraits taken and I was horrified with how my eye area looked! I don't regularly give myself a big smile when putting on my makeup so hadn't realized just how many smile lines had developed! I don't have "wrinkles" so much when my face is at rest, but when I smile I have crow's feet and several crinkles under my eyes that accentuate my genetic dark circles.

I'm reading as much as I can here trying to decide what to use but would also appreciate if anyone has some quick advice on what to start with - there's a lot to digest! I'm not afraid to DIY some things- I've got experience making basic cosmetics and soaps. I try to go with natural when possible but am fine with breaking out the big gun chemicals if it helps! Wink

Other info about me and my skin routine:
40, dark brown hair (well, fighting to keep it that way with a bottle!!), light skin, green eyes
blemish and congestion-prone, somewhat large pores, combo dry with some oily spots (nose, chin), darkness under eyes that's been there since I was 7 (sometimes better, sometimes worse).

Current regime: wash with MyChelle Fruit Enzyme cleanser using clarisonic pro, tone with witch hazel, various zinc/titanium based sunscreens daily. I use MUAC mandelic serum nightly for pigmentation and/or dermaE evenly radiant serum (also pigmentation). Occasional peels with MUAC 40% lactic or glycolic peel. DermaE evenly radiant night cream around eyes and as needed for dryness.

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

There seems to be a lot of peeling going on and acid usage. Are you also protecting your skins barrier function.

I am by no means a pro, been on EDS less than a year but have learned a little. In my opinion the basics are:

1. Right cleanser for your skin type/ Double cleanse if you wear makeup and a gentle eye cleanser to avoid dragging skin in the gentle eye area.

2. Vitamin C serum if your skin benefits/ can tolerate it. There are great recipes in the DIY section.

3. Sunscreen - Lots of information and debate on here about that.

4. Good barrier repair cream/ moisturiser esp as you are using lots of acid products.

5. Then there are the extras i.e. Retinoids, Peptides and other serums.

Good luck Smile
