Hi
i posted on this forum last year regarding a burn i sustained on my face while using glycolic acid 50%.
its been well over a year and theskin has still not healed up. Its hypopigmentated, im a brown skinned person.
And there are parts where it has remianed red for months.
i dont know why its taking so long to heal up, it should have healed up already as it has been well over a year.
To me it looks like the skin heals up and then just suddenly gets worser wih tears in the skin.
I dont know what to do.
I had dry skin and thought this may be one reason why its not healing well. I moisurise everyday and it has gotten a whole lot better but its still noway near enough healed up.
the barrier looks like its struggling to repair it self.
I think i may have an underlying health problem, could this be a reason why skin will not heal?
everytim i take a niacin supplement my skin looks as if it starts to heal up, but then suddenly the next day looks like its been exfoliated again.
i dont know what to do.
the area is quite large around the size of my palm. |

Acids are always tricky with darker skin tones. I would see a dermatologist if I were you. Someone I know reacted very badly to just a little glycolic acid in an Avon product, but she healed up fine and in just a few days.
Are you taking vitamin C? It's essential for wound healing. I always take it, and people have remarked how quickly any little wounds I get heal up so fast. |

i have taken 500mgs per day although i find my skin gets bleached and exfoiated when i take it internally. which is counter productive.
my skin has been super dry over the last year and i have been plastering loads of moisturing cream with vaseline and it has helped, but not fully recovered.
to me it just looks like my skin barrier just doesnt want to heal up. i dont understand why. |

I am sorry to hear about your ongoing problem. I hope this will help you...
My dear friend had an accident and she sustained a wound to the top of her head. No matter what she tried; antibiotic, steroids ( prescribed by her Dr.) nothing helped;she struggled for 18 months, without much success. Her wound was not closing up, and appeared to be getting worst.
Eventually, after doing a lot of research, I advised her to try Manuka honey ( topical application x 3 per day, and a spoon taken internally x 1 per day.)
Initially she was reticent to follow my advise, but seeing that the orthodox methods were not working, she decided to give it a go... Low, and behold, after three weeks, she noticed great improvement.
Please do give it a go. Just make sure it's at least 10+ active. Anything below that, doesn't seem to be strong enough.
All the best! |

Okay if you can get to see a dermatologist, that would be fantastic as there may be something else taking place, but a year is long enough to have this heal up so it is possible that something else is going on. You say you think you may have an underlying health problem – well that would certainly have an impact on your skin healing up. |

im not sure. All i know is this should have healed up properly months ago, the only thing i can think of is an underlying problem.
Its just the barrier, its having a hard time healing up. My skin has been very very dry over the last year it was until a few months ago that i started applying vaseline and then progress was being made.
It healed up (with hypopigmentation) and then i made the mistake of going out in the sun without protection, the result was the redness started to comeback (sunburn) ever since then its not healed up.
Ive taken vitamin c which seems to exfoliate the skin. the l-ascorbic acid kind.
Ive taken niacin to try to repair the barrier, it does the same thing, exfoliates and even makes it whiter.
ive given these two supplements a rest and my skin starts to darken up again.
can anyone suggest a good barrier repair ointment to use after peels/burns?
i currently religously apply cicalfate repair cream, then cerave over that and then vaseline. |
