I am new here and have been suffering from acne scars and enlarged pores on nose for a couple of years. I have done many research on web and in general people say that scars on nose do not respond well to scar treatments such as TCA cross and derma-rolling. I wonder if this is true and why? I would really like to improve my scars cuz they are so intensely packed and noticeable under all types of lighting. It always makes me very depressed. Has anyone have any successful stories to share? Really appreciate it!

Are they recessed scars or keloids? I've seen before and after pics from many people that have had success with dermarolling on recessed scars.

Keloid scars are a different story. I haven't had or seen any success with dermarolling.

I have ice pick and box scars. So nose can respond equally well to derma-rolling? I heard the nose heals differently from other parts of the face and many people did not get good results. Confused

I think the nose will take more time. Either way, it would hurt to try. This link discusses TCA and single needle processes.

Tracy how old are you and also is your skin still oily? If so the pores could still be dilated with excess oil production. I would advise you to look at various ways of getting that under control especially dietery methods and then once you are sure you have that under control assess the pores and scars that still bother you and treat them.

Methods for treating nose scars I have heard of as being successful are punch excision for larger scars and TCA Cross or Needling to fill in the smaller scars and then finish with laser to smooth the final result.

All that said the skin on the nose is different and results can be unpredictable so it is probably best to see a professional for these treatments.

Thanks for your reply! Yes my nose is VERY oily especially at night after I wash my face (I am 19). That's why I also have tons of blackheads there. What dietary methods would you recommend? I would like to go for some chemical peels but I'm still on tetralysal for my acne so I can't do that now. I'm also using tretinoin for about 2 weeks and no improvements so far (some say it makes their pores larger so I'm quite scared).

And one more question I have always wanted to ask: how exactly is the skin on nose different?

Have you tried using peroxide for the oilyness? Also, you must use a moisturizer at least twice a day.

Hi Tracy, Sorry for my late reply.

For diet look into a Low GI wholefood type diet, very boring but controling blood sugar levels through diet and exercise can help with regulating the hormones which cause excess oil production and acne. There is a book "The Clear Skin Diet" by Alan Logan has been helpful to me.

I think the reason that skin on the nose is different is that it is draped over cartilage and bone with little fat underneath. This just makes the outcome of various treatments a little more unpredictable. This also seems to be the general opinion of a lot of dermatologists and plastic surgeons I have read talking about treating the nose on sites like realself etc. It it possible to try a treatment but the outcome can be poor, that said I have previously fixed a noticable ice pick scar on my own nose with TCA cross and copper peptide cream about 8 years ago. The healing however took a long time and it was unsightly for months.

Its just unpredicatable.

I used Duac for 3 months which contains benzoyl peroxide but I don't think it has helped with the oiliness.

I have always applied moisturizer twice a day but I found if I don't use it my face is a bit less oily so I stopped Confused

For getting rid of scars the Exuviance 25% peel is really good and also Zyderma cream made w Microsilver.

I did ask my derm about creams with Microsilver and he did say they work for healing skin.

For me it has worked really well, but I am still working on getting rid of one huge scar at my jaw line.
I ended up getting a 3" scar on my cheek almost 2 years ago and did go to a bunch of derms, had a bunch or cortisone injections...and got scars from the needles too Sad

I did see 2 different cosmetic surgeons and they could not agree on a good treatment for my scar, so I am trying to get rid of it myself and it is going away, but slowly.

It is now a 1" scar and looks a bit darker than my skin still.

My prob is my skin still breaks out sometimes, and I do a lot of sports outdoors.
But overall my skin does look nice and I do get a lot of people asking how come I have no blemish marks on most of my face (if you use enough peeling things they eventually go away Smile

I also have sensitive skin, so can not do too much at once and just use the exuviance peel once every week or 2 weeks lately.
