Is there anything to help prevent. I've had alot of skin problems lately (could be something internal) but i have noticed over the past few weeks spider veins appear under my eyes, now im noticing veins popping up over my body but the thick blue ones, around my hip and groin, over my breast, along inner arm, over hands, one on leg. I have been working out over the past few months so possibly could be showing more from that but i havent lost alot of weight or anything so i dont know why they would be showing more.

I am getting help from a nutritionist soon and might be getting tests done to see if there's anything off, but i was just generally wondering if anyone has good preventative measures, my mum is starting to get varicose veins on her legs now shes hit 50. So i'd like to prevent anything like that happening in the future. Any tips?

Sometimes it's genetic. Everyone on my father's side of the family has veins in their arms and hands. I inherited this gene. But on the plus side they don't have a lot of cellulite and I inherited that too. Still don't have much cellulite and I'm in my fifties. Gotta take the good with the bad.

Also it makes it easy to find veins for blood donation. No poking around to find a vein. Very Happy

I found this article that you might want to read: http://www.thegreatfitnessexperiment.com/2012/08/giant-veins-and-other-unintended-side-effects-of-exercise-reader-question.html
Essentially, it is normal, you might want to ensure you are well hydrated and check your supplements for vasodilators (if you are taking some body building supplements). Apart from that, thickness of the skin plays a role. I've read that dry brushing can increase thickness of the skin.

I really wouldn't worry about it...

It might improve if you follow an anti-inflammatory diet.

Also flavanoids are supposed to reduce vein issues: quercitin, rutin, also some supplements like butchers broom.

I'm taking the tons of fruits and vegetables approach and drinking yerba mate which has a lot of flavanoids..

The veins may be a subclinically inflamed or be permeable so there could potentially be room to reverse this ...

Thanks all! Im having a bit f a panic again, i sort of came to terms with it all over the past few days after i went to my doctor telling him about the pains in my feet and knees and the veins showing but he didnt care and wouldnt do anything for me Sad

I put off working out and nthing got worse but i worked out today and tonight ive found a ton more that have extended and look really blue. They werent here earlier! Im scared to death i wont be able to get rid of them.

Luckily im seeing a nutritionist Thursday and also go another doctors appointment for Friday to see someone else for a second opinion. I just cant believe how veiny ive got within a week!

Thankyou for all the info, specially about an anti-inflammatory diet. Problem is for me i have a mild food pollen allergy so i dno if some things that are natures anti-inflammatorys actually help lol Sad but i will find out from this nutritionist! Was going to her about my acne and keratosis pilaris, now just another thing to add to the list.

Anyway thankyou. If anyone else has more advice please let me know, has anyone had this happen from exercise?

Good luck!

Would be great to hear what the nutritionist says - you could also try compression stockings

ive been to two doctors one was quite horrible about it to me, second one was helpful and thought things were fine took my blood pressure said it was normal although i was so anxious being out (i get anxiety) i thought maybe that affected the blood pressure reading?

And my nutritionist said its ok too but im not convinced i have achey feet and ankles where they bulge out on my ankles now and my hand ones are starting to bulge. Im not convinced nothing is wrong Sad Im becoming really unhappy and dont know what to do for the best, ive stopped working out because of it and i was starting to feel alot better about my body.

Just a thought... Did you start working out recently? If your muscles are not used to working out and you do intensive workout, first response is for them to swell because they retain water trying to repair... This response can last up to a month (I read that 2 weeks was typical, but it lasted a month for me), I ended up with huge calf and thigh muscles for a month (and 2 kg weight gain)... The same mechanism can also make veins more visible. For me this was caused by 2 exercise sessions...
After this initial repair stage, they returned to their more normal size...
Achy ankles probably mean stretched ligaments, so taking it slowly is advisable...

Hi maggie_p i started working out a few months ago. I started doing the 30 day shred (tiny bit of cardio, resistance etc) so wasnt very vigerous but since then i dropped that off and started to do more resistance work sometimes with weights. Maybe my ankles are struggling because the workout doesnt really strengthen them exactly? Maybe i should do some more walking/jogging?Maybe they are weak? I dnt understand why id be seeing ones on my hands though dont think there is muscle on backs of hands?

Thanks for replying though.
