Hi all

I am ashamed to say at the age of 32 I have very little knowledge of how to care for my skin and am having a number of issues I would really appreciate some help with.

To start with.. I have to admit that I have perhaps not taken the greatest care of myself over the years and it is now taking its toll on my skin. I was a smoker until a year ago and also a sun worshiper who ( very very stupidly) didn't often wear strong enough sun block due to wanting a sun kissed look! I was also very addicated to diet coke. Needless to say, my skin is not looking great!

I have seen a facialist who advised that I have dehydrated combination skin. In some areas it can be very dry but quite oily between my eyebrows. I also suffer from chronic uriticaria so have to take daily antihistamines else break out in itchy wheels on my face.

My main problems are

1. What i perceive to be quite deep wrinkles on my forehead.
2. The skin on my forehead almost looks "sagging" as if it is not tight enough, I don't really know how else to explain it.
3. Very pronounced lines between my eyebrows.
4. Crepey skin on my lower face. There are lots of fine lines but when i smile it looks horrific and almost crinkly...
5. Lots of freckles or more likely sundamage but very uneven skin tone. Hyperpigmentation I think?

I should also note that I had a beautiful baby boy only 8 weeks ago and my skin became even worse during pregnancy. I have noticed a lot of hyperpigmentation I think, darkening around my upper lip and especially between eyebrows and eye sockets. This may have been there before but I think has worsened since pregnancy.

As you can see... I am in need to some help Smile
I have consulted a private doctor who I am due to see next week and has suggested a retinal A cream and some fillers in my lower skin to address the crepey skin. However at the age of 32 I find it quite drastic and although will probably have to go down this route am wondering about how to care for myself better.

I guess I am wondering which products are recommended for sun damaged, premature aged skin and what routine would be best?? I have read on vitamin C and vitamin A? And also how should i exfoliate? Are there any supplements I can take?? So many questions.....

I am currently useing rosehip oil daily and a moisturiser for dry skin. I do drink quite a lot of water now and generally eat quite well, eg, lots of fruit and veg.

Any help would be so gratefully appreciated!!

My reply is probably very biased as I am a total believer in both Cellcosmet and Valmont skin care lines.
Both of these lines could help your skin condition but they are a bit pricey and I am a believer in using all the necessary products from the same brand (cleanser, toner, exfoliator etc).
I currently use Cellcosmet but many of the Valmont products would also be effective including their new Expert of Light range.

Personally I think you need to do some research first and educate yourself on ingredients and what different things do and what has science behind them.
This site has been around a while but I still think it's a good place to get started:
http://www.smartskincare.com/

I would recommend Retin A or at least a strong retinol. It takes a while to acclimate your skin to retin-a (maybe start slowly over a month or 2 and build to every night). Use it at night but still always wear a good sun screen during the day. It makes you even more vulnerable to the sun.
I'd also recommend a Vit C serum that might include/ or in addition a serum with things like Hyaluronic Acid and peptides.
You might want to include AHA's or occasional lactic acid and/or glycolic acid peels.
The AHA's and the Retin A both exfoliate and help with sunspots and hyper-pigmentation as well as fine lines.

You might also want to read up on things like dermarollers and face exercises. There's a lot of info on this forum about these.
Bushy named some great products but pricey products are not your only option. There's a lot you can do.
Usually after starting on a good skin care regime (after some neglect) you may see some dramatic results in a relatively short period of time. Just be mindful of irritations and not over exfoliating ..

Your problems are probably due to pregnancy -go get facial from the nearest Eminence skin care esthetician but give it a couple more months and they should dissipate....then look into Eminence products
