| What does hyperpigmentation look like if it is on the cheeks? I have some scattered freckles on my nose and cheeks. I am fair skinned but tan eventually. My face has a bit of sun on it but there are areas where the skin has white patches that I have tried to cover with bronzer and nothing covers it. If it is hyperpigmentation, how do you get rid of it? |

The pale patches would not be hyperpigmentation. They would be darker spots.
Here's some definitions for you:
Increase in melanin (hyperpigmentation or hypermelanosis) can be due to an increased number of pigment cells (melanocytes) or from increased production of melanin.
Reduction in melanin results in pale patches (hypopigmentation or hypomelanosis) or white patches (leucoderma).
Personally I have some of those pale patches on my forearms and as far as I can tell it's damage from too much sun with no protection. I use to be bad about protecting my hands and arms even when I was fanatical about my face and neck. As mine are relatively minor I haven't delved into a solution. |
