I've noticed that my pours are getting blocked with a hard build up. I wouldn't really say they look like black heads as they are more of a transparent/yellowish colour. They stay there for ages (I'm talking months and months) and if you do finally try to squeeze them out, you get a little hard long lump (a bit like a grain of rice). This also leaves a hole as the pour has been stretched open for so long with the blockage. This goes within the hour though.

I just wanted to know what this stuff is and how to stop it? I wash regularly and use a facial scrub to try and stop my pours getting blocked but I still get these.

I've also noticed that some of them start from under the skin and then come to the surface. So I'll have a bump on my forehead and then many months later you can see the pour is bigger and that there is the tip of the hard lump.

Any ideas? I've got quite greasy skin, so I thought it might be a grease build up.

Sounds like it might be a sebum (skin oil) buildup. I have oily skin too, and I've found it very effective to use the Dr. Hauschka cleansing cream twice per day. In combination with a cleansing clay mask 1-2 times per week (preceded with a facial steam bath, naturally) my pores have been quite clear.

Yep, that's exactly what they are... dried sebum plugs( oil) that if the end of it ( inside the pore it will harden and form the shape of the inside of the pore that it is contained in, hence the rice grain shape) is exposed to the air long enough, will oxidise and turn the tip black. That's all a blackhead is, the exposed (hence oxidised) end of a dried oil plug inside a pore.
Shock

When we have oily skin, it just naturally collects in the pores, especially if the surface of the skin is not very regularly exfoliated. Not removing dead skin cells can effectively block pore openings and instead of the oil being able to get out freely ( in liquid like state) to the surface, it will remain and dry inside the pore, just as you described.
Washing normally won't be enough to keep the oil being able to escape freely on it's own. Annoying but just the way it is.
When you exfoliate quite often and are oily skin typed, you might even feel your skin seems oiler, but that is actually a good thing because it's not sitting trapped under the skin surface and is easily washed away before it can clog the pores. Smile

Sounds like sebum and you sound like the perfect candidate for the Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream if you can commit to using it regularly and investing two minutes each time you use it Smile Seriously, it's fantastic at clearing out pores.
