I came across Phytic Acid and am intrigued!

SKII uses Pitera™ which is a combination of salicylic acid and phytic acid used to accelerate skin turnover with gentle exfoliation.

Phytic acid, also known as inositol hexakisphosphate, is a compound ether composed of myo inositol, cyclic sixfold polyalcohol, and 6 units of orthophosphoric acid.

Some background:
Phytic Acid was first used clinically in early 1995 as a skin lighting agent. It works by blocking the entrance of iron and copper in the formation of melanin. As well as acting as a melanin formation blocker, Phytic Acid was described by Pugliese (Peter Pugliese, MD. Philadelphia, USA) as an iron specific antioxidant and he demonstrated its chelated action on iron, copper and calcium. This antioxidant action is important to the skin, because oxidation stress is an important factor in the reduction of the inflammatory process, the precursor to post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation lesions.

This acid is so amazing!
• capable of whitening skin
• mild and almost non-aggressive
• characterized by high antioxidant activity, since it slows down production of free radicals
• can be used to treat couperose
• stimulates regenerative processes in skin
• has high efficacy
• active ingredient in the famous Hollywood peel.

Phytic acid is an excellent anti-oxidant, unique free radical inhibitor, enormous inherent buffering properties, binds proteins, involved in cellular control systems, bio-active stable, chelator.

Anyone have any idea where i can buy the raw ingredient? Would the ones sold in the health food shop be suitable to be used for skin formulation?

Both IP-6 and myoinositol are sold as supplements on amazon from various brands; the bulk forms with no fillers would be best. I don't know if you will have solubility issues; some things don't dissolve well in water, or even oil or alcohol.

If you try out your own topical formulation, be sure to keep us updated.

You could use your topical to protect you in the event of a nuclear disaster Very Happy

or just sun damage; maybe keep some of the IP-6 or inositol around for internal use just in case of a nuclear emergency
