Aga,

So sorry you are going though this. I am not much help when it comes to acne recommendations. Just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you. The day will come Aga when you will get this all sorted you. Crying or Very sad

Winnie

PS: I agree totally with Toe's advice. The Dr. H's cleansing cream could be bringing all the impurities to the surface. Please don't go out a buy new products right now. I know it is hard but stick with what you are doing. There is nothing in the products you are using that will hurt you.

i went through almost the exact same dilemma when i was 16.

i went to go get my upper lip threaded and the lady ended up threading my whole face. a couple of days later my clean, smooth skin bursted out into acne. to make matters even worse i started growing thicker facial hair, especially in areas where i didn't have any hair.

my advise to you is use DIFFERIN (prescribed by a dermatologist) to get rid of the bumps. if you've got scars i'd recommend NEOSTRATA HQ GEL.

good luck

Hello Winnie!

Thanks for the support!

I am using my old origins cleanser only at the moment, and seems like since I stopped DR H CC the acne has actually gotten worse?

Right now I am definately not going to use anything else other than the cleanser, dont want to confuse my skin even more ( even though I think that Dr H CC was helping a little bit )

I am positive that the problems I Have right now are caused by the facial.
I never had any acne before.
Never had problems using new products.

I just hope that theres a simple solution to get out of the mess I am in right now.
I am hoping that an antibiotic would help.

This just makes me so angry that I had great clear skin and the facial messed me all up and now it is my problem to try and fix it ...
The dermatologist office takes no responsibility, not even " we're sorry..."

Hey Julia,

Thanks for your post.

I am not sure how strong the differin is, and if its working like an antibiotic?

What other girls are saying makes so much sense, that it must be some bacterial skin infection, so I need something specifically for that.

Its sad that we both got problems after our facials when it was supposed to have the opposite effect.

Aga, I took the tetracycline for a couple months, I think you take it for 2 or 3 months. It may clear up, if not, I'm sure you wouldn't have to take it again or indefinitely, your doc could try something else.

It's so sad it was a derm who did this, maybe you should request a free appointment? You shouldn't have to pay for another consultation if they are the reason you need to see them again, imo. I would insist on a paid appointment the worse they can do is refuse. Which I can't see them doing and if they do, it's a good thing you won't be going back. Can you see your regular doctor? My regular doctor prescribed tetrocycline.

Try going off the salicic acid for a while, your skin might have gotten sensitive after the facial.

I only had a facial once and I also experienced your problem. It just depends what can set off your skin. Confused

I already payed them once when I saw the derm about a month ago.

I just dont know how to bring it up on the phone. Embarassed Any suggestions?

Hi Aga, I would let them know you didn't have acne before your visit, it's not going away and that you would like a complimentry appointment. Be polite but firm, that's my motto. Smile

I forgot though that you had gone back and gotten the treatment that didn't work, I can't believe they made you pay. I think it would help if you let them know how distressed you are. Considering though that you have gone back to no avail, can you see your general practitioner instead? It doesn't sound the like the derm will be much help, unless you pay to see him/her again.

I don't know whether this has been already mentioned, but have you considered Accutane? What about Retin-A?

Aga, just a thought.. when did you go back on the Cilest? Was it before or after the problems you are experiencing now? For most people the pill clears up acne but for others it can make it worse I think... I could be wrong though Embarassed

Lolli,
Thanks for the suggestion! My GB charges more than the copay at the derms office though... so its a tough call.

Rzecka,
I went back on the pill just a couple of weeks ago ( if that) and I havent noticed any change in my skin.
I got the facial over 2 months ago and thats when all the hell broke lose on my face.
So I dont think that there would be any connection between the two.
Plus Ive never had problems with the BCP, been always taking the same brand and it never caused any breakouts before.

Ah, darn, Aga! I would call the derm again and insist on a complimetary visit. You have nothing to loose, they however would most likely (if they haven't already) loose your business, not to mention other's you won't be recommending the derm to.

From what I've read, Accutane is a very powerful medication, I would try antibiotics first. Accutane is supposed to shrink your oil glands and if you don't have oily acne prone skin normally, it could dry you out really badly. I have a friend who after 6 years of doing a 4 month treatment on Accutane went from oily skin to dry sensitive, it seems permanently. If you can find a good doctor, they can explain the options. You never know, a good dose benzoyl peroxide might kill the bacteria sufficiently. I tried the regime at www.acne.org but my skin is so sensitive it hurt badly even just using a little bit of low dose bp, I use it only to spot treat whiteheads now and tretinoin on blackheads.

Sorry to go on and on, I know how hard it is to control, not really knowing what will work until you find it.

Hey all,

I thought I would post a little update Wink

So its been a few more days and I started taking an antibiotic ( my mum whos a GP gave me something a long time ago and I used it now )and my skin seemed to have cleared up a little bit. It seemed like the spots were getting smaller but now its pretty much all the same, I have a few more spots come-up again.

Ive been using only my origns cleanser and an SPF.

I guess I should finally go to the derm, just tried to avoid it since I couldnt get a complimentary visit.

Aga, I've been wondering how you are doing! I'm sorry you couldn't get a complimentary visit with the derm and that the antibiotics don't seem to be working. Maybe your skin is purging and will soon start to get better?

Aga, sounds to me like your problem is hormonal - I suufered for years from acne and cleared it by going seeing a homeopath worked wonders and cheaper than seeing a dermatologist.
Before that I was on topical aplications (have since read that certain chemicals in these can contribute to infertility). I was on antibiotics for about 2/3 years - DON'T HAVE ANTIBIOTICS - I suffered constantly from yeast infections and they messed all the bacteria in my stomach up so I was intolerant to all kinds of foods and ended up with a nut allergy from all the stress - plus my skin was still a mess!!!
Keep your skincare routine as simple as possible - the more crap you put on your face the irritated and inflamed the problem will become.
I really do recomend homeopathy, if you have a healthcare plan it should be free, also high doses of B vitamins (esp B6), high dose zinc, high dose of Vitamin A.
Finally don't despare, we have all been there, one year my skin was so bad, you could not see anything but big red spots - now I get complimented all the time how nice my skin is.
Yes Tea Tree is in my opinion the best topical application - all those chemicals are no good.
Good luck, keep us all posted.

I suggest using Burt Bees Garden Tomato Soap and toner. Also the herbal blemish stick. All 99-100% natural.

Could the acne be down to hormonal changes, contraceptive pill or something?

Vitamin B5 can cure acne but you have to take HUGE dosages and I wouldn't recommend going down that road as no one really knows the long term dangers of taking large doses of vitamins and supplements.

BP (benzoyl peroxide 2.5% gel) will rid you of acne but its not without its draw backs, it will take 6 weeks and make it worse before it gets better. Also the gel will bleach skin potentially (gradually) and also bleach hair and clothes if your not careful.

Hello ladies!

Thanks for all your great advice!

Its nice to know that even though it seems that I have already tried all that is out there, there are still a few things to try and hopfully something is going to help Smile

I just got a new insurance so hopefully homeopathy is going to be covered. I dont mean to sound stupid, but what is actually homeopathy? Embarassed

Next thing I want to try is the Tea Tree Oil.
I bought 100% TTO, but I dont know how to use it.
I saw Dessert Essence Face WAsh with TTO, maybe I should try that?
Do the Burts bees cleanser and toner come with TTO?

God just seen this thread, poor you! Is there any way that you can report this derm? I would be furious if my skin was wrecked like that and they wouldn't even offer a free consultation to sort their mess out!

Make sure all and I mean ALL the people you know in your area are aware of their cavalier attitude!

I would avoid accutaine as well. I understand it is only for really chronic acne and there are serious concerns about it's safety.

Keep your routine simple and eat well and keep your fluid intake high.

Homeopathy may help as well, at the very least it will do no harm.

Aga, try Biotherm Acnopur cleanser and a benzoyl peroxide topical solution (clindoxyl gel- ask dermatologist abt it) on the afflicted areas.

Give it a few weeks and hopefully things will clear up? I have ridiculously sensitve skin but that combination worked amazingly to clear up my skin. Occasionally I get blackheads but the biotherm biopur mask keeps them at vay as well.
