Hi everyone - this is my first post on anything so apologies if i make any posting mistakes?!I did join a few years ago but life kind of got in the way of my beauty habits and investigations! I'm back now and hoping to share and enjoy all sorts with fellow members!
I know I’ve left it a little late for too much experimenting but would really appreciate any thoughts on what, if any additions to my routine, may help improve things in the next six weeks without triggering ‘the uglies’? My main query is around Vit C and retinol – basically when I’ve tried using these in the past, I can’t seem to avoid major skin irritation so I have to stop. However, I know they are meant to be really helpful in improving collagen etc… so I’m tempted again!
I’m thinking of using Timeless Vit C serum perhaps twice or three times a week instead of my usual serum, with Cerave PM to soothe afterwards? Is this too risky at this point before my birthday – is Timeless too strong? I’m especially keen to minimise/reduce neck crepiness, ‘chicken goosebumps’ slight sag and neck rings…
I’m quite ‘savvy’ about skincare [although not in the league of some amazingly knowledgeable people on here!] and after serious sunstroke at 18, I’ve not gone in the sun since – unless fully ‘blocked’ up with sunscreen. I live in the UK so it’s not hard to avoid intense sun! I have very fair [Irish white] skin. Until recently my face has looked [apparently!] much younger than its age due to my fairly careful routine and reasonable efforts with diet and supplements etc…
However the dreaded perimenopause has definitely accelerated things over the last few months with my neck [I did look after it too – genetically weak spot – thanks Mum!]. I’ve also been through a really tough few years financially and emotionally – like many I know -I hate being a 'loser'! I’m definitely working hard to recover and if I can’t, well, I’ll go down fighting for sure…my two teen sons will ‘look after me’ and become millionaires – apparently [?!] since I’ve been an ‘amazing’ mum – thank goodness they think that at least?!
Sorry for all this background – just trying to convey why at least still looking younger means so much to me. I can’t bear the thought of hitting 50 with everyone secretly thinking – ‘yes – she looks it now’ in addition to my other challenges?!
Also on a practical level, I really want to ‘buy time’ work-wise – I know looks shouldn’t matter but whilst I won’t lie, it’s certainly easier to get training contracts if I look fresh, nearer 40ish – ie with a good few working years left?!
My skin leans towards ‘thirsty’ combination facially with a dry, crepey neck now – I drink loads of water, take all the usual supplements good for skin/aging etc…, don’t smoke or drink alcohol etc…
Currently I do the following:
Products:
AM and PM –clean with micellar water – massage around eyes [this has been success - better now than 3 years ago]
Twice a week – kiehl’s overnight peel – combination area of skin only – too harsh for neck maybe?
Tone – homemade rice water – lovely!
Clinique laser repairwear serum – can’t use Olay, Paula’s Choice – too silicon-based – rolls when I layer etc…and a lovely friend gets it v cheap for me
Aldi day and night cream for basic moisturising dry parts. [sunscreen too ]
Gadget: 3 per week – ultrasonic massage with cheap version of Tina Richards’ Ultra Renew device – ebay special and def helps plump jawline at least!
Supplements:
Magnesium 400 mg – can’t afford more
Vit C – at least 1000 mg
Astaxanthin
Starflower oil [stronger version of evening primrose]
Iron
Lysine
B – complex
Vit K and D3
Regener8 [skin/hair complex – zinc, Vit A etc…
My supplementing began due to hormonal hair loss a few years ago – apart from my neck, everything else is back in some sort of balance now so it’s not all bad!
