Can I use retin a just on trouble spots or will that not be as effective as applying to the whole face? Will it also become for example lighter or smoother than surrounding skin causing it to be an obvious difference? |

I wouldn't spot treat with Retin A mainly because I would want my whole face to get the benefits of Retin A. If you want to spot treat, try a laser like Iluminage, that will cause slight inflammation so you will see an immediate flattening out of the wrinkle and, over the long term (6 months +), collagen should be stimulated to smooth out the wrinkle on a more permanent basis. I don't think anything except filler or a true in-office laser treatment will have a big effect. |

That is one of the worst things you can do. Retin A doesn't usually effect the whole face at once, so for example you could have peeling near your lids one week and then near your chin the next. It encourages faster cell turnover and is a skin remodeler so you need to be sensible. Using it to try to make skin lighter will not work either. For that you need skin bleaching agents and Retin A doesn't do that.

While Retin-A may help wrinkles around the mouth don't inadvertently lick your lips with it on. I am pretty sure you aren't supposed to ingest it. |
