Hello,
I'm getting an upper lid blesphemy. I know that I will
be black and blue, The question I have is if I have to
go out and I am bruised around the eyes, could it look
like I had a car accident? or something Other than
eyelid surgery?
Thanks!

I had an upper and lower bleph but I didn't go out for about 7 days until I had to go get the stitches out. Yes, I was black and blue and very swollen but the stitches were obvious too. From an upper only, it may not be so bad.
But I had a 1-2 punch that kept me from going out more than the bleph.
I had CO2 laser at the same time, so I had bubbled and peeling skin sloughing and oozing off.
I was very attractive haha!!!
Good luck!

Well, I can not stay home for a whole week at a time-I have a lot of things to do outside the house every day almost.

But you are also not allowed to wear contact lenses for a bit after surgery...you would have to get some big sunglasses or large eyeglasses to look somewhat ok if you leave your house.

So maybe get some large cheap sunglasses at the Bay, amazon or wherever...

The hubby remembered my eyes almost swollen shut for the first few days as well. I had to sleep propped up and put in drops.
It all depends on fast your body heals of course.

So, they do the upper lid and the lower part at the same time?

-I only needed surgery on one of my upper eyelids, so to me my case is kind of different.
*I wanted to try and see a different Dr., so at my last eye exam asked the optician for a referal...and the idiot opticial/optometrist/whatever actually told me it was a cosmetic issue.
-I really had to bite my tongue to keep from insulting the Dr at Laurier optical as my eye problem is not cosmetic and actually causes me some vision problems and is covered by the provincial medical insurance and they only cover things that are non-cosmetic.

*My aunt said she had problems with her eyemuscles and has had at least 5+ surgeries so far-the first one when she was 5 or 7 years old....I can't imagine that-she is 68 now.
Her surgery was not cosmetic,it was/is considered a health issue, so the provincial insurance pays for the whole thing.

I had upper and lower at the same time.
I know several people who had the uppers covered by insurance, mine was partially.
MY doctor submitted a prequal to my insurance and they approved it on the grounds that the upper eyelids drooped enough to make it a hazard for eyesight. Very very common.

I had upper eyelid surgery over 10 years ago. For the first 2 days I was very very swollen and the surgeon recommended taking bed rest and using ice packs constantly but to stay sat up to prevent blood clots. After 3 days I went out and after 7 the bruising started to fade. The stitch was taken out after a week and I felt ok to go out without huge sunglasses. I don't regret it for a minute.
