Hello,
I am a newbie here. I have been reading reviews on the wonderful effects of alpha lipoic acid / cream on the face. I am wondering if anyone has tried it and which products on this site contain this ingridient?

Thanks.

There is strong evidence that ALA is a highly potent anti-oxidant & i would certainly recommend that people take it in pill form at least.

Ive been taking 600mg a day for the past 12 months & my immune system is great. I never seem to get colds anymore Smile

I took it in capsule form for about a month after one of my friends convinced me that it was a great anti-aging thing. I think it's very important to drink lots of water when taking this. I TRY to drink as much as I can but back when I tried this a few years ago I didn't really care about increasing my water intake.

After taking this just twice I felt great (which I wasn't really expecting)! I actually had more energy and I'd wake up early in the morning (without an alarm; if you knew me you'd be gasping right about now! Smile) feeling all fresh and ready for another day instead of feeling like I just wanted to stay in bed all day. But after about a week of taking this I started getting really bad migranes. Someone on one of the newsgroups said that I had to drink more water. When I did the migranes went away in about two days. That could have been just my reaction to it, I'm not sure.

I don't take it anymore because with all the calcium supplements etc that I have to take (when God was handing out bones I was somewhere at a cosmetics counter me thinks Sad) it was getting a little bit much (would you like some food with your pill-breakfast?....) Smile

hey:)
How much of ALA were you taking? I take a 100 mcg a day...I'm also on the glutathione /NAC + selinium + vit C regimen...some people on some other skincare forums say that GLut is supposed to make you lighter, i dont really subscribe to that theory.I'm just trying to overload my system w/ anti-oxidants..anybody ever try Glutathione here though?

I was taking 100 mg twice a day. They come in 100 mg capsules and it said 'take 1 to 3 daily' so I settled for the in between and took 2 Smile

And like you I was just trying to get some good ol' antioxidants in me Smile Never heard of Glutathione though.

Are you sure you take 100 mcg or 100 mg?

Whoops, its a 100 mg, whoa, thats a lot, Smile BTW, ALA helps raise glutathione levels

Glutathione is like the king kong of antioxidants, its also a major detoxifier, so, it makes sense that taking Glutathione would make your skin look better. Theres a TON of hype about how its supposed to make you lighter and stuff on skin ligtening boards, if anyones interested in that.
There are also people who take melatonin to make themselves lighter/ make the skin look better, i'm quite leery of that, cuz melatonin is a hormone, DONt wanna mess w/ that stuff.
anybody on this board try either of these things?
