Hi all,

I have been reading your posts for quite some time. I am 27+..doing my masters..so i am having a very irregular routine,,no fixed time for sleep..(generally go to bed in early morning say at 4:30 am or 5 am) and sleep nt more than 5 hours..also drink very less water..
considering this fact, i will say that my skin is quite good..don't yet have any dark circles..(have some brown acne spot though..but very few)..but if it continues like this, i will end up having very bad skin..i am an indian ..so i have yellow/brown complexion..very silky and oily and very thin hair..

after raeding your posts i understood how negligent i am about my skin and health..

i want to start taking care of myself..can you please please help me with your suggestions..
my skin is sensitive,,in winter it's dry as i live in cold weather and in summer it's oily..
after reading your posts i ordered the followings from EDS..

a. vivier vit C-10
b. SkinCeuticals Ultimate UV Defense SPF30 (90 ml
c. Decleor Aroma White Brightening Purifying Mask ..

can you please tell me if i have ordered the propducts appropriate for my skin..i also requested for sample of Valmont Renewing Pack.

can you suggest some good day moisturizor, night cream, exfoliator(for daily use and weekly use)..and cleanser

thank you very much,
sinha

Well done you for going for the masters.
When I was at uni I was a wreck the whole time.
Here's what I recomend - forget spending a fortune on cosmetics they won't make any difference!!!
You need to start drinking water, cut out the caffine, if your sleep deprived and rely on this you will feel ten times worse when you have a come down.
I kept a cheap hand held blender in my room (£10 FROM ASDA) and had a smoothis every morning, then just used to make sure I had stuff like chicken, cherry toms, carrots, nuts, seeds, apples etc to snack constantly on.
Oh and rather than spending money on expensive facial care, (make-up some of carekates recipes or I used to just go to the supermarket get a cheep cleanser, make my own toner out of witch hazel, rose water for dry skin and use jojoba oil on my oily skin) spend the money on some good vitamin supplements.
I say this as your body will be run down from lack of sleep, i'm guessing dehydrated and if you are grabbing convenience foods (sorry to offend if your not) you will not be getting the correct nuitrients.
Lastly feel good about yourself not everyone has gone on to do a masters Very Happy Take a little time just to rest up.
What you doing your masters on by the way?

I was a student once as well I ballooned in weight, my acne got worse, I got irritable bowl...I can't even look at alcohol now, I just can't handle it!
Your body is a temple it needs to be nurtured - ooo I'm so corny. You have to treat it like an expensive car or handbag. A car won't run as well off crap fuel as it will off good fuel.
Oh god what i'm i talking about - we have been looking around cars today Rolling Eyes Laughing
You must feel like your brain's been fried sat in front of the screen all day!!!
I'm just getting my head around the t'internet Very Happy

Sinha,

Yes, the good old days of computer science. I was a computer engineering major many years ago. I remember getting 5 hours of sleep was considered luxury and no food/water for the whole day in the computer labs.

Definitely start wearing spf everyday. I didn't do that when I was in college and I sure regret it now. Also no matter how tired you are, make sure you wash your face before bed. Maybe you can start lugging those plastic water bottle around campus then you have no excuse of not drinking water.

I wouldn't spend tons of money on skincare (yet). If you get your basics down then you are in good shape. AM: cleanse->moisturize if needed->spf, PM: cleanse->treatment if needed->moisturize. As long as you keep your skin clean and hydrated, you are good to go. Also for sensitive gals, don't try too many new products at once.

Good luck in school Very Happy

ROSEBUD!!!! whatsamatta you???? She's a grad student. If she cuts out caffeine, she'll die and what good is beautiful skin then. Shock

Seriously, though, I think you've made some good choices sinhap...you might also want to consider the Dr. Hauschka Rejuvenating Mask for the days after... Wink

Welcome to the forum btw. Keep listening to us and the only thing you'll be able to afford is water and apples!

I can identify with that. Long hours in the labs, debugging code, trying to write a bit more of the thesis, etc etc

I agree that diet, water intake, sleep are very important. In all honesty though, when I was spending nights sleeping under the desks in the labs, I couldn't care less about diet or water intake. It was always fast food - that's what was available on campus. I'm not recommending this, all I'm saying is that while I *knew* it was important I was too stressed and too low on time to actually follow through. The one thing that I always did though was take vitamin supplements (stress eats up vit B) and have some fruit on hand as well. Taking care of my skin was pretty much for me a form of relaxation. After spending long periods of time in the labs, I would still use my last bits of energy to wash my face and apply a mask. I had to so that I would look human the next day! Laughing

I would recommend that you try to watch your diet and water intake and that you consider taking supplements (vit C, B etc) when you're more stressed or when you're eating junk. In terms of skincare, I think you have chosen well. I would suggest you simplify things and use the same moisturiser day and night. In summer, Jurlique Herbal Recovery Gel might be a good choice for you. In winter, when you need a heavier one, perhaps one of the Dr Hauschka moisturisers? I think there are plenty to choose from - it depends on whether you want a natural line or not. For exfoliating, I was going to recommend the Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream but I think you probably won't have the time/patience at this stage to use this. Perhaps you'd like something gentle like Peter Thomas Roth Botanical Buffing Beads?

All the best with your Masters!

katee> Very Happy you are right! I am a new member and after reading this forum for a grand total of 1 day, I decided to get Dr. H..... This is really bad...

sinhap> I am also a MSc student and the late nights are terrible - I never get to recuperate enough but I find that exercise helps to clear some of the effects of late night studying better than apples and caffeine But that's another forum. BTW, where did you request the valmount renewing pack? I think I need it - badly.

Sinha,

I totally underdstand. I am not working on my masters now, but a second degree, and I am working full time. I have been doing all of this for 1 1/2 years now and all of a sudden (about 4 months ago) it really started to take a toll. I agree with everyone else's recommendations, but I will just make one more. I would start using something around your eyes too. If you don't have any fine lines or dark circles, you are ahead of the game and can keep them at bay for longer. Sundari makes a great eye oil and it is only $30.

It's worth pointing out that if you start on this board, you will have no thesis/dissertation because it's too distracting!

OK, signing out again, just thought I'd poke my head round the corner to see what's up!

Liz Smile

PS my dissertation super thinks I should submit my research diss into a journal. I think that means it must be quite good! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
