is there an effective way to remove/lighten freckles without having to go thru IPL/laser surgeries? i have tried Neoceuticals HQ Lightening gel which contains Kojic Acid and Hydroquinone but i dont think it does any lightening for me. My facialist did notice a difference saying my skin has thinned in those areas but because of that the freckles appear darker. Is that a normal side effect? Instead of improving the pigmentation, i feel like my skin is more spotted now Sad...anyone experienced something similar or has a alternative recommendation?

I know you're looking to lighten them...but I just wanted to say that freckles are soooooo cute and sexy, that maybe you should just go for a haircut and make-up that accentuates your natural beauty instead of hiding it. Show off those freckles! I know alot of models that have tons of freckles, and that's why they are models...clients love the natural fresh look of freckles.

I would use some lipgloss, rouge and just go natural...maybe get long bangs and some highlights, or color your hair dark red...ask a hairstylist for advice. But remember that your look is special and so are you Wink

I'm no expert so I do not have answer to your question (actually... I'm looking for ways to remove/lighten my freckles too, so thanks for posting the question.)

Only one friendly reminder for you, whenever you put on Lightening gel/bleaching cream, etc for lightening the freckles, make sure you put on sunscreen.

Not because of the product itself, but due to the fact that the skin becomes thinner when you use this kind of products, the skin becomes more fragile. if you do not wear sun protection during daytime, chances are... the freckles get worse and you get more freckles than you started with. (I learnt it the hard way...)

I would suggest vitamin-c serum and a good sunblock to help prevent freckles in the future.

Totally agree! even if you hate freckles, they look a lot better than the damage wreaked by skin bleaching. That said queenkatez suggestion is good as well, I think everyone should use sunblock though Laughing

I have freckles as well but they don't bother me too much (my bf thinks they're cute Razz ) but anyway, I've found the best thing is to use a nice fake tan on my face, not only does it help camoflage a few of the freckles but it also gives my skin a healthy glow. Thalgo and Ella Bache both make ones especially for the delicate skin on your face and neither of them have made me break out or go orange. I'm sure there are alot of other good brands too, those are just the ones I've tried and had success with. My sister has also just started using Dermalogica's day bright and night bright creams which are supposed to help fade pigmentation and freckles so I'll keep you posted on how well they worked. Just don't do anything too harsh that's going to leave you with awful skin!! Whilst they're not my fave feature, I'd rather not risk the long term health of my skin just to get rid of them. Good luck tho, I do know how you feel Very Happy Oh and I'm sure you've heard this a million times, but I NEVER EVER leave the house without sunscreen on and that has helped fade them too. Make sure you use a sunscreen that has titanium dioxide (light reflecting particles) so that you're not only protecting your skin from sun damage but also from further pigmentation. Most of the mineral makeups (Jane Iredale & BE) have it, as does Dermalogica's ultra sensitive sun block and MD formulations sunscreen.

Thanks for all the advice!! I like freckles too but i've noticed mine are darkening and sort of amalgamating to be like pigmentation so they're getting less cute. I wear sunblock religiously as well - am currently using Skinceuticals Ultimate UV Defense SPF 30. I don't think it contains titanium dioxide, only zinc oxide? Is that bad? i really don't know what the difference is! I also think sometimes maybe SPF30 is not enough. I read about Photoderm Max SPF 100 as being very effective -anyone tried it? I have skin type like some of u on this thread - fair, combination, sensitive, generally ok to dry (cept oilier T-zone) but very active glands hence susceptible to occasional break outs. Hence, always have a problem with finding the right products!!

If they are darkening even with sun protection, then I think a C serum amy help. It won't get rid if them, but it may lighten the parts where they are joining up. If you live in a sunny climate, a hat may help as well Smile

To be honest I don't know the difference between zinc and titanium dioxide? I googled both of them and it seems they do similar things (absorb and reflect UV rays) http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/z1/zincoxid.asp. I also know how you feel about having trouble finding the right products!! Most of the products for sensitive skin tend to make my oilies worse and products for oily skin are too harsh!! I don't know a lot about sunscreens but I would do your research before you step up to an SPF 100?? The chemicals they put in to make it that protective may actually do more harm for your skin than good.
