I will be honest here...
I am cheap and am looking for the most cost effective way in skin care.
My profile: Born and raised in Arizona with little sun screen, and am suffering the effects now. I also have adult acne on my back. I never up until this point paid much attention to my skin care. I am 35 years old.
I have spent a lot of money in recent hisory on Clinique products with no visible results.
I am no dummy, and look at labels. I have found Neutrogena products that seem to have the same percentage of ingredients as the more expensive brands.
Am I fooling myself?
I am willing to pay if it is worth it, but don't want to be a sucker for expensive promises.
I clearly see why the "aging" business is a billion dollar business and would like to avoid being a victim.
Concerned, but not willing to buy into it.
Thank you:) |

I think that many of us at some time or another have gone for Clinique, and didn't get the results either. For your money, you can do much better, IMO . I don't think you really have to spend a lot to take care of your skin...although I defintely do spend due to this website Anyway, for sun damage, I would recommmend a Vit C serum. Start with 10%. Cellular Skin RX makes a good C serum and it is very reasonably priced. On top of your C serum, you are going to want to use a broad spectrum sunscreen. The higher the better. At night time, I would use a Retin-A product. Depending on your skin type and how extensive you want your routine to be, we can make more recommendations.
For your back, I would use a cleanser with AHAs. If you can find one at your local drug store, that would work. If not, MD Forte II or MD Formulations for problem prone skin both have high percentages of Gycolic Compound (about 15%) and work well to keep skin clear. They are facial cleansers, but can be used anywhere. I would use a weaker % on my face though. HTH |

I highly recommend Dr. H cleansing cream. You can check the DIY skincare recipes to do an extremely affordable cream that is simply wonderful. I use that twice every day.
It is a great product... |

i've noticed that although drugstores might have the same ingredients, they were always too harsh on my skin (combo to oily and asian). but that's just me. i have a few neutrogena products that needs to be dumped although they were just bought, too harsh for me :/
however i found clinique acne system to do wonders for my skin and i am using their night gel and post blemish tube.i do stay away from the rest of their skincare lines but do like the pore minimiser. skin types are different so the best is to find something that works for you although it could involves many trial and error.
as for expensive products versus cheap, i tend to go for what works for my "fussy" skin and found decleor to be perfect although $$$$ :/ but I'll rather pay more for something that's worth it than waste cheaper products.
for acne on your back, try a shower gel with salicilic acid/tea tree oil. A good review site is alsowww.makeupalley.com. essential oil blends do wonders and if you do your own recipe, it's much cheaper!
BTW the DIY recipes are good too and cheap. I'm in love with the apple cider toner and hope to do the DrH CC once i see results on my skin as i just started using it and iam breaking out (it seems to be a normal pattern as the skin purges!)
Heh I'm not into anti-aging stuffs yet (24 yrs old) but I'm sure a good diet (someone told me to pile on proteins as I age since this is what basically the skin and muslces etc are made of) and exercises can make more differences than piling on anti aging cream.
My mom loves Yves Rocher the retinol line though and she also swears by aloe vera face cream which did wonders as it also lightened brown spots she had on her face due to aging. her skin is pretty smooth for someone close to 50, unlike mine :/ meh hormonal acne is the devil!
I'm starting to believe that products with natural stuffs (aloe, essential oils etc) are much more gentle and better for the skin! |
