I received my C serum from JB and tried it for the first time today. After reading on it, I have a question that I am hoping that someone can help me with. My understanding from my previous readings on C serums was that L-ascorbic acid was the only topical C serum ingredient that could be absorbed properly by the skin. I do not see L-ascorbic acid listed in the JB C serum ingredients or at least in a way that I can understand. Is L-ascorbic acid the only topical C that can be absorbed properly by the skin or is my understanding completely incorrect? And if it is needed in a C serum for it to be effective, is it listed in the ingredients of the JB serum, perhaps by another name? I definitely don't want to jump to any conclusions as I am not a chemist nor really up on all the new information out there.
I will list the ingredients below hopefully typed and spelled correctly as the words are very long and the writing on the bottle very small.
JB Vitamin C&C facial serum ingredients:
Demineralized Spring Water,
Mulberry Extract,
Polysorbate 20,
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate,
Sodium Ascorbate,

Bitter Orange Extract,
Horsetail Extract,

No, from the ingredients you listed, it does not contain L-ascorbic acid, probably due to stability issues. This formula contains Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, which is the fat-soluble form of vitamin c with it's salt (sodium ascorbate). Wow! This formula has a lot of ingredients in it for an active treatment product!
Looks nice though. It should be non-irritating, as the Mag-c is gentle to begin with & its corresponding salt neutralized. It should leave your skin nice & soft & not dry. |

I found this on smartskin.com
"Magnesuim ascorbyl phosphate is a water-soluble derivative of vitamin C rapidly gaining popularity in skin care. It is nonirritating and more stable than vitamin C. Most importantly, magnesuim ascorbyl phosphate appears to have the same potential as vitamin C to boost skin collagen synthesis but is effective in significantly lower concentrations. Overall, magnesuim ascorbyl phosphate appears to be a better choice than vitamin C for people with sensitive skin and those wishing to avoid any concomitant exfoliating effects. (Most vitamin C formulas are highly acidic and therefore produce exfoliation.)
Skin care products with magnesuim ascorbyl phosphate are available and their number is growing. Be careful though. Many products contain less than effective concentration and fail to boost collagen synthesis. Also, even though magnesuim ascorbyl phosphate is several times more stable than vitamin C, it still gradually degrades when exposed to light and air. Hence freshness and proper storage are important." |

Thanks for the info. So much out there all the time to keep up with. Nice to know. I am really looking forward to seeing the results of this after I've used it a bit more. It was really a great gift sample. |
