You should apply your Vit C serum first, on clean, dry skin. Wait about 10 minutes, and then apply any other products you like. |

I would apply the vit C first and then the oil after the C has absorbed. |

i read on another thread that someone mixed a few drops of the ylang ylang with their C serum (to make the Ylang spread easier) and then put it on. That person thought it worked great.
I am wondering if you can mix the Ylang Ylang with your sunblock to put it on after the C. |

Do you apply Vit C before or after Toner? |

most definitely use vit c after toner, or else the toner will wipe off all the vit c. |

Do you use both morning and night?
I'll try to mix the ylang-ylang oil with vic-c to experiment. Will let you know how it works.
Question on the toner ... exactly what is the function of toner? is it necessary? |

Hey there-
there are several threads on 'is toner necessary'. It was originally developed to remove excess cleanser, however most cleansers today come off completely with water (I think back in the day cleansers must have all been somesort of heavy wipe off cream based affair). So it is not necessary if you have a light cleanser that you can feel rinses completely off with water.
That said, toners do have some benefits and a lot of people love them. Some can tighten pores and reduce oiliness. I still use one- not sure exactly why, I think I am just used to using one. So yeah, tone then vit c then ylang ylang. Let us know how it goes mixing ylang ylang with vit c or sunscreen. I know some people mix it with mosituriser and get good results.
I have been using the ylang ylang for about a month and no major reduction in oil- a little bit- but not what I thought. Am I using it wrong? Or am I just so oily the y-y can't handle it> yucky thought tho .

If you decide to incorporate a toner into your routine, you would use it morning and night:
Cleanse face, put some toner on a cotton pad and swipe it over your face. Next, apply Vit-C serum, wait a few minutes to let it absorb. Apply Ylang Ylang oil (mornings only) and wait a few minutes for that to absorb, then apply your moisturizer/sunscreen.
Personally, because summer has officially arrived in TX (Temps in the high 90s F with almost 100% humidity), I have just switched my routine and have begun applying my Vit-C serum at night, and my Y-Y oil in the mornings. So far, it’s made a significant difference in lessening my oiliness “break-thrus” during the day. |

Maddy -
If you’re a serious grease ball like me, Ylang Ylang oil on it’s own isn’t going to do the whole job. You need to use several weapons to fight the oil, and the Y-Y oil is only one of them! A Vit-C serum also helps to regulate the oil, as does the use of an apple cider vinegar toner. In addition, I also apply a very thin layer of (plain, unflavored) Milk of Magnesia before I put on my makeup. When that dries (30-45 seconds), I sweep on a layer of Jurlique Rose Silk Dust as a “primer.” Then I put on my JI pressed powder foundation and the rest of my “face,” then sweep on another layer of Rose Silk Dust to set everything, and this routine has really worked for me. During the cooler months, it helped me become almost completely oil-free during the day, but now that the hot/humid weather has arrived, I am getting a little bit of oil break-through during the day so I have to blot once or twice (compared to having to blot every single hour!!), and right around after-lunch, I sweep on another dusting of Rose Silk Dust and I’m good for the rest of the day/evening.
The point I’m trying to make is that if you are supremely oily, one product isn’t going to suddenly end your greasy-skin woes. You have to layer products and/or ingredients that are going to compliment each other and work together to control the overactive sebum glands. I’ve finally found the regimen that works for me and I can’t even begin to tell you how much of a difference it’s made in my life! You need to experiment to find the combination of products/ingredients that are going to work wonders for you, because Ylang Ylang oil is only one of the building blocks.... |

Thanks carecate-
Have been using it along with dermalogica special cleansing gel (which is fantastic) and decleor hydra matte- thinking to add vit c serum tho, and maybe use a mineral foundation although am not a big wearer of foundation everyday. Milk of magnesia is interesting- how did you get onto using that? remember dosing horses with that when i was younger i think.
Anyway, must have mega oily skin and will see how serum goes and report back.
Thanks for all your help (again...definitely very helpful to all of us here)

serums should always be applied first. a good general rule is lightest textured product to the heaviest textured. |
