Hi everyone,
I'm really happy I stumbled across this forum. I hope someone here can help me. My face skin is extremely dry and flaky in certain areas.
Everyday when I wake up in the morning I have to wash my face (after talking a shower), probably at least a minimum of 3~4 times to remove the flaky dry skin that appears on my forehead, in the corner of my eyes right between my eyelids and my eyebrow, not in the corner where you get the gross wax stuff when you sleep, and finally in the area where my nostrils meet my face and cheeks.
Paradoxically, my face is really oily everywhere else. This situation used to happen only in the winter (I live in minnesota if that makes a difference) but now its year round.
I don't know what to do. My skin is both oily and dry and I have no idea what to get for this. I stand in front of the skin care aisle at my local Target with absolute helplessness not knowing what it is I need to buy.
Please help if you think you know something that can at lesat alleviate this flakyness. I don't mind the red skin so much (most of it is on my cheeks which makes me look merry quite honestly, on severe outbursts some people have accused me of being drunk but thats ok .
Thanks for taking the time to read. |

Sounds like 1st thing your skin is confused, washing it so much will only make it worse because it dries it out more and in addition makes the oily areas more oily because the skin is confused. Living in a harsh climate it sounds like you should treat your skin like its sensitive to balance it out. I can't recommend a line because my skin is different by the forumn swears by Dr Hanushka they have trial kits or last resort seek the advice of a Dr or good skin specialist-not @ a dept store. Hope this helps-If its any comfort my skin is very sensitive/combo and I use Yonka and Skin C |

Hi Studio54, welcome to the forum! Sounds like you maybe have some form of dermatitis, you would probably find relief if you visited a dermatologist in your area. In the meantime I would purchase a good gentle exfoliating scrub like dermalogicas daily microfoliant, and see if that helps any. I would also try an over the counter hydrocortizone treatment for those areas, maybe you can talk to a pharmacist and he/she can recommend something for you! Hope that helps you somewhat, I'm sure the other more knowledgeable gals here on eds will have some other suggestions for you to try! Good Luck! |

Hi there... is sounds to me like you have seborrhea. I would recommend you see a derm, but in the mean time, you could try washing your face with Head and Shoulders (I know it sounds weird) or any type of shampoo that is made for dandruff/seborrhea. As long as you aren't really sensitive and you only use it once a day, that should help. If you absolutely can't put that on your face, then I recommend apple cider vinegar toner (ACV) as vinegar will kill the little microbes responsible for that condition.
Good luck to you!

I would start by regularly using a gentle exfoliant. A gentle granular scrub would be good (PTR Botanical Buffing Beads is great!) or something natural that will moisturise the drier bits (like say the Dr Hauschka cleansing cream ). If you are rather "skincare lazy" then try to incorporate a cleanser with very milk and fine granules. From what I recall Olay Total Effects was a good one.... |

Hello and welcome
I think redhead has a point and that you are stripping your skin too much. Try Mabsy's suggestion of gentle exfoliation (use a flannel or a mix of olive oil, brown sugar and honey if you can't wait to get some made up product). Try a few drops of jojoba oil or olive oil as a moisturiser after the apple cider vinager toner that alilicious recommended.

Mabsy you beat me to it - I was going to suggest the Dr Hauschka range
Also have a look at the mineral make-ups for toning down your red cheeks without irritating them. |

It sounds like you do need to start exfoliaatining. YOu saifd that you wnet to target and stood looking at the skin care line there is agreat skin care line there that was designed by an make-up artist ,her name is Sonia Kanuk. try this .....use sonia Kanuk's milky Cleanser and then use her exfoliating cleanser and then the moisturizer in the same brand the serum of the same brand and of coarse the eye cream. You shlould start seeing some results by the end of the month or longer. I tried her skincare line myself and I did like it. Let me know if it works? Brigitte Kent |
