winnie, did they make custom orthotics for your arch too? My dad used to have horrible heel spurs and he had to get surgery for that...it was a long recovery and he wishes he hadn't had it done. |
Yes, Lianne. I had custom orthotics made and they do help so much. $350.00 and insurance doesn't cover them. To be honest I don't care what I have to pay. Judy just told me about a Chi exerciser that helped her so much. Judy had a bad problem with her ankle also. |

$350, damn..if you lived here you could've gotten your orthotics done for less than that. My boyfriend used to make them for one of his jobs. |

Hi Lori,
Peeling and redness should start within the first 10-14 days depending a lot on your skin. I really hope you have good results with the product but also wish you could have found a derm.
Mine changed my program so often it confused me lol. Our skin all reacts differently and there are different approaches as to how agressively derms want to treat our skin. I wasn't prescribed all of the products so am curious as to how you chose yours?
If you have any questions I can help you with feel free to pm me.

Hi Sherri,
I chose very scientifically. LOL
Really I read everything I could find about Obagi on web. Looked at pics and studied specific problems. Decided which were most like me and then ordered the whole Nu-derm system from EDS. I am going to take it slowly and not rush at it like a bull at a gate.
Thanks for info and offer of advice. You may regret telling me I can PM you. Only time will tell This will be you once I start. |

Since this is an Obagi thread, I thought I'd throw out that if anyone's looking for a good facial spf moisturizer, the Obagi spf 35 one (the one that comes in a tube) is really really good. It's really moisturizing without being greasy or too heavy (as long as you use just enough to cover your face!) and it is completely unscented. I don't use the Obagi regimen since I don't need any resurfacing (yet, at least, I avoid the sun!) but the facial moisturizer is great and gentle. LoveLovelove!!!
I'm gonna try the Anna-Lisa spf 30+ next just for comparison, though to see which one I like better! I swear, I'm not a committment-phobe. |

I saw big results after using Obagi for about 6 weeks. I used it because I have freckles and a couple of brown spots that really bothered me. They faded and only one brown spot remained but had shrinked in size. The first few weeks were really awful. My face was hurting all the time and I was peeling like crazy. I stopped using after about 8 weeks but the spots got bigger and a bit darker so I use it once or twice a week to keep them light. I guess I will have to keep using HQ or else the brown spots will just come back. |

i have been on it for 6 weeks....the first 2-3 weeks were really rough...lots of redness and peeling but then things got sooo much better...
i still peel once in a while (like once every 2 weeks) but only when i am really aggressive with retin a and blender...if that happens i chill on retin a / blender for a nite to get back on track. |

I just had to add my 2 cents regarding obagi. I had a consultation with Dr Obagi and he prescribed a routine for me using all obagi products (with retin-a). This was years ago before obagi came out with his vit c products.
I had pretty normal skin before obagi and was hoping obagi would fade my hyperpigmentation. I immediately started flaking and my face was very red and painful. I also started to breakout. I knew this was part of the "ugly" stage. Luckily I wasn't work then so I was able to hide in the house for months. My face never stopped flaking and the burning sensation continues.
I went back for a follow-up consultation. Since my hypigmenation wasn't fading, I was told to apply retin-a twice a day. I didn't know better so I followed the instructions.
When I was finally brave enough to go outdoors, I had people constantly asking me if I was ok because my face was beet red. I also had to cover my face up even in the car because any sunlight through the window hurt my face bad
I remember eating dinner with my family in a nice restaurant. My face was ok when we started. By the time we were eating dessert, the area near my mouth were all cracked looking (due to the chewing motin) and I had pieces of skin hanging down my chin. I was so embarassed. I covered my chin with my napkin for the rest of the night.
I went through the whole 4 months of obagi and saw no improvement. I stopped using the products period. I stilled experienced flushing/redness for 6 months after stopping obagi.
Had I know about all the bad stuff associated with HQ, I wouldn't have used obagi. I didn't know much about skincare then and didn't do my research. I was told not to use moisturizer at all and to use retin-a 0.1% right away. Stupid me just followed all the directions to the T without asking any questions.
I know some people had great success with obagi and unfortunately I wasn't one of them. It is a strong line of products and works better for people with thicker/oilier skin. Just listen to your skin and I wish you success with your skincare. |

I started using Nu-derm specifically for congested skin. I think the Tretinoin is what helps clear it up and the rest evens out your skintone.
I use the whole Nu-derm regimine for combination/oily skin, you have to get the Tretinoin from a doctor though. |

I was just saying you can get the Obagi kit from EDS, but if you have congested skin, you will probably want the Tretinoin, which you have to get from a doctor. |

I've been using obagi for a week now. The first two days, my face was completely red and on top of that it was peeling pretty badly. After a few days now, my face is more of a pinkish tone. I definitely can see my pores being less visible and my acne scars smoothing out. And my friends and family have noticed the improvement and gave positive responses. |

I'm almost out of the first round of Obagi stuff I got at the doctor so I ordered it from EDS this time. I was concerned about the expiration date on the Rx products, but they're all good for at least a year!
All the talk about Hydroquinone & parabens is kind of unsettling though...I'm not sure if I'm going to keep using it when I'm done with the new stuff. |

Hi Sherri, I'm new here! I started 6 months ago with the Obagi C- RX System line (recommended by my Derm) to get rid of some dark spots in my cheek area. It got better but not actually erased it. I have some friends that have had better luck with the nuderm line and I decided to give it a try.
I'm a little scared about the peeling process, specially living now in sunny Puerto Rico. I have never done any type of peeling before.
-Are there any special tips or recommendations anyone would have for a less unconfortamble experience as possible?
-I won't be able to stop going to work so is the use of mineral make up ok?
Thanks for the help,
Yayis |

Hi Yayis,
I am doing Nu-Derm through a doctor and they recommend using mineral makeup. They carry Colorblend but I've been using Bare Minerals without any problems.
I was worried about the peeling at work too; I signed up for the Obagi Inner Circle and one suggestion they had about peeling during the day is to mix a small amount of the Exfoderm with the cleanser and apply to the area. |

I've been using obagi for 3 years and love it. I have never found anything that works like it.
Its the one regimine I wouldn't give up.
It is uncomfortable at first, so use the control products. That will help with the discomfort and redness and peeling. There is alot of info out there, use it. Go easy around your mouth and nose,as those are sensative areas. Back off if you become too uncomfortable. Your skin usually adjusts after about 6-8 weeks and tolrates it just fine, and then you go on maintance, using the products about 3 times a week.
I'm 51 and most people are amazed that I am not in my early 30's. I LOVE these products.
If you are resourceful, you can find them for reasonable prices.
I agree, its probably best to start with a skin care specialist, as its kinda rough at the beginning, but once you get the hang of it, you'll figure out wich works best for you and be able to manage your own routine.
Good luck! |

Check out my post above. I also broke out from obagi. The breakouts lasted a few weeks. |

Do you use Retin A with your Obagi regime? If so, you might want to check if it contains isopropyl miristate.
I was told that isopropyl miristate causes acne breakouts. Make sure that your Retin A does not contain this ingredient. |

To my understanding, the breakouts are all the junk under your skin coming out, so it's actually a good thing. It might take a few weeks for it to go away, but you should notice almost no breakouts afterward.
You just have to stick it out and realize that it's going to take more than a couple days to undo years of damage.
I know how you feel, I was whining about my skin on a bunch of these posts for 3 weeks! |

OMG mtview - What an awful experience.
I can see only one user here who is happy with Obagi. I can't understand for the life of me why most people want to do this. By all accounts it sounds like total abuse for your skin. It seems like a perfect recipe for later problems.
Did your skin ever recover fully mtview?
