I have been on Accutane for 3 weeks now and just noticed last night that the fine milia that were underneath my dark eye circles and in the crease of my chin have disappeared are gone! Wow! I wasn't even focused on the milia - much more worried about the acne and scarring - so this was an unexpected benefit for me from the Accutane regimen.

As for the Accutane - my skin has dried up now and mostly it looks fine and smooth, just like the skin on my neck. Blackheads are smaller. I am still having breakouts but they are not nearly as bad. I am no longer a greasy mess since my sebum production has been shut down. I think with all the excess sebum I had before, I always had generalized skin inflammation because it was like a party for acne bacteria. Now my skin is calmer.

I think it's too bad that so many people have been scared off this drug. I was, but now I wish I had started it years ago. It would have saved me a lot of anguish, money, heartache and scarring.

I am happy enough with my skin now to add a skin type signature! Very Happy (Before I didn't want to feel defined by my yucky skin.)

I'm glad you're having great luck with it!! I'm totally inclined to agree with you. I've been on Accutane for a year now (only 1 40mg pill once a week, though, although I started at 2 or 3 a week) and it's done wonders for calming my skin down. I used to have really annoying stress-related breakouts and my oily skin just wouldn't take a break! Now, I can control the shine better and I get cranky if I get one small pimple.

I feel bad as well that Accutane has such a fearful stigma placed on it. The trick to its prescription is to use a minimal dosage of it over a longer period of time, rather than shocking your system with 40mg every day of the week. I never had the peeling and flaking that others have complained about.

Granted, my hands and lips get *insanely* dry and it's taken me nearly a year to find over-the-counter products that work. (I'm loving the Caudalie lip conditioner and YuBe hand moisturizer.)

It's great to hear that more people out there are having success stories!

(I haven't noticed any impact on forming or getting rid of millia or anything personally, but I'm curious to see if others find that effect!)

my brother took the accutane too. I believe he was on it for 6 months so he probably got the high dosage. It didn't completely clear his skin but helped get rid of all the cystic acne. About a year and a half after he went off he went back on and again, got rid of the cystic acne. He went on a third time this last fall and he got some liver complications and had to be taken off.

Perhaps the long term, low dosage method it best...I doubt he can go back on it though.

just a heads up on the accutane....dont take it unless your face is the only part of your body that you care about! ive known people's hair to fall out joints get damaged, liver problems, severe depression, the list goes on. its not worth it. maybe a whole different approach would be better.

Hi all,
I have also been on accutane for my super oily skin. I had severe dryness the first few weeks then got absoultely FLAWLESS looking skin up until a bit ater i stopped taking it. However,i did notice getting depressed for no reason whilst i was on it. Thats nothing though, compared to the permanenet damage it caused me after i stopped. I have permanent dry eyes now and i cannot wear contact lenes anymore. My liver is not functioning well (found out from blood test) and what more? My pimples came back with a vengence!

See i am not the type of person to believe in everything i hear, hence started taking accutane. But after taking it for 6 months, eventhough i did have perfect skin for those months, i completely regret taking it.

I really does cause permanent damages to your body, much worse than having pimples. I have been off accutane for almost 1 year now and still taking milk thistle supplements to assist my liver function. As for my skin, it is not 100% clear but im less oily now with no acne, many blocked pores though. But with good skin regime im able to keep it at bay. In conclusion my fellow friends, dont take accutane/roaccutane!!

Hi,

I think it's a very individual decision to make. There are always going to be 'horror' stories about any type of medication or procedure (I had very bad reaction to benzyl peroxide and microdermabrasion) but it's up to each person to make that decision for theirself, as long as it's an informed decision. For some people who suffer severe acne the side effects are more than worth it to be rid of or reduce the misery of acne. Just my 2p worth...
