Is anyone else stunned at the Grandprix spectacle that is taking place at the moment. Someone out there has gone completely mad. |

grand prix and spectacle. Isn't that oxymoronic or something? |

Liz,
How many times have I asked you not to use big words when talking to me?
Shouldn't you be researching rural urbanization or something. |

It was all a bit ridiculous and could have been easily avoided. I'm not surprised though that a group of grown men couldn't come up with a proper solution.
I did find it all a bit funny though watching 6 cars tootling round the track. One thing that really annoyed me was the stupid idiots in the crowd throwing stuff onto the circuit. Really immature and potentially very dangerous.
I feel really sorry for the people that paid lots of money for their flights and GP tickets. |

I agree they should have let the girlfriends & wives sort it out.
I can understand the crowds anger but it was dangerous and stupid throwing things onto the track. |

All of the teams running on Michelin tyres pulled out of the race after the parade lap. This was because their tyres were proven to be unsafe to race on. The left rear tyre was collapsing due to the pressure put on it with the high speeds and banking at the circuit, also the diamond cut surface that had been added to turn 13 (I think that's what they said). Ralf Schumacher had his tyre fail on Friday practice and his car ended up in the concrete wall. He walked away unhurt but he could have easily damaged his legs or worse.
Something like 11 tyres failed over the course of the GP weekend (all Michelin tyres). Due to FIA rules the teams are unable to change their choice of tyres. (You still there, Guapagirl?) One solution was to put a temporary chicane onto the circuit to slow the cars down enough to avoid the problem. Ferrari and the FIA wouldn't agree to this.
Anyway, it was all very childish but still fairly entertaining to watch only 6 cars out of the usual 20 going round the track.
The crowd were pretty angry and some of them were throwing bottles and beer cans onto the circuit. Some of the losers in the crowd were throwing them as the cars were going past. Obviously with the intention of hitting the drivers.
I also heard that some of the drivers were getting a lot of abuse when they tried to leave the circuit. The drivers don't really have any say in this sort of matter. They have to go along with what their boss decides. |

I do. A previous boyfriend used to work in F1 and so I started taking an interest.
Not really up to speed on all the technical stuff though. They change the regulations so often that I forget what's legal and what isn't in Formula One. |

...So F1 fans are throwing stuff at drivers because they don't want to kill themselves by driving on dodgy tyres? Nice. I do realise that it is almost as boring as golf and that the only excitement to be had is when there is a crash, but to actually encourage crashing seems somewhat irresponsible to me.
But maybe i have the wrong end of the stick |
