Anyone watching, out there in tv-land? I've only caught a couple of tid-bits. Pink Floyd is on right now, and man-oh-man, Roger Waters looks like he's ... dead! He and Keith (aka "Keif") Richards must belong to the same, Walking Cadaver Club!
Yes, we have a stage here in Canada too. Live 8 Canada is being held outside of Toronto, in Barrie, Ontario, at (formerly) Molson Park. The Tragically Hip are coming-on momentarily. Dan Aykroyd (huge fan of the group's) just introduced them. Cool. The Hip are one of the BEST, most popular groups in this country. For some reason, they never broke-out in the U.S. Too bad. They're awesome. Dan Aykroyd knows a good thing when he finds it, and so does the rest of Canada.
http://www.thehip.com/ Have seen them once, live, but it was in an arena setting (GM Place, Vancouver). They are apparently far better in a small venue. Kick-in-the-pants: I was in San Fran. a week after seeing the Hip here, and there was an ad, announcing that the Hip would be playing the Filmore Auditorium the following week! Grrrr! The FILMORE, people! (Sigh!)
Anyhoo, `haven't paid much attention to this concert, though I hope that Mr. Geldof's efforts once again have an impact.
I am thirty, so I do remember 1985's Live Aid concert. I was into music, and very precotious at a young age. I watched the WHOLE concert, live, London opening, through to Philly closing. Trivia: Phil Collins opened at Wembley, and then flew the Concorde to Philly, to close the show too.) I also re-watched a bunch of it, a couple of weeks later while visiting my Aunt Sue in Toronto. She had it taped, on SONY Beta. Now if that isn't a blast from the past, I don't know what is! Betamax. Remember that format?!
The #1 song that week was Duran Duran's "A View to a Kill". The group performed it in Philly. "Good eeeeeeeevening, Philephelphia!" yelled Simon LeBon. It was also the week that nudie pics. were being published in both Playboy and Penthouse magazine, of Madonna, from her struggling artist days in NYC. Remember those?! Bette Midler came on-stage to introduce Madonna, saying,
"The woman who pulled herself up by her BRASTRAPS ...." Madonna's response was,
"I ain't takin' s*** off today!" Her hair was red, and she married Sean Penn the following week.
How DO I remember this stuff?! |

I remember watching the first live aid concert from start to finish. Yet I have not managed to watch any of todays. Had a heavy day shopping (very selfish I am).
I guess your dementia has not kicked in yet if you can remember all those details. You wait it will get you in the end. |

I watched for hours here at AOL, for once AOL provides a good service! They had live feeds from all over, not all but the main ones.
I thought The Hip sounded terrible! I wonder if the sound system was just plain crappy there? I really liked an act I saw on the Canadian stage but don't have a clue who they were. The rap type act with the half dressed chicky, at least she could sing, does anyone know who they were?
The London concert sounded the best, if you take Madonna out of that. Sometimes she can sing, sometimes she can't, like yesterday. I cannot believe I missed Pink Floyd!! I will have to see the rerun. I thought The Who blew P MCartney out of the water. The Black Eyed Peas were cool too, as were so many other acts. I really liked Green Day's rendition of Queen's We are the Champions. |

I did think there is no way I'm going to be watching this, but then I ended up sat there with my mother in law glued to the TV all day!!!
The acts that impressed me were Maddona, The Who were fanastic, as were Pink Floyd (little mellow for my tastes but good), there was a band I've never seen before called Velvet Revolver, they caught my attention.
How funny was Peter Kay....and they cut him off to interview Gearge Micheal!!!!!!! Very annoying!!!
David Beckham looking prety darned good....until he opened his mouth |

| I just about remember some of Live Aid but not much. Saturday I kept flicking from channel to channel, stuff about the march, tennis, afternoon films fell asleep at one point but yeah, after thinking who'd watch these boring old duffers, I actually enjoyed it. Have to say as well from attending previous events like this the atmosphere live is a wonderful thing, really warm. People can be destructive evil shits but we can also be fantastic and giving. I just hope the message grows. |

Agree: the Hip sounded TERRIBLE! I was embarassed! Whether it was the system, or whatever, I've seen them do live performances before, and they've never sounded as bad as they did on that stage!
I didn't really see the rest of the show, other than a bit of Pink Floyd. |

hahaha I agree!, I felt embarrassed for him, I was prompting him to speak!
I love Peter Kay, he came on stage when I went to see Queen a few weeks ago. Bon Jovi was my favourite! |
