Is there a limit to how many glycolic products a person should use?

I started the PTR 10% glycolic hydrating gel a few weeks ago and it's really improved my skin. Fewer pimples and smoother texture. I only use it at night because I use vit C in the morning.

I would like to try adding in a glycolic cleanser (twice daily) and toner (am only), would that be too much?

and...does anyone have any recommendations for cleanser and toner. I was eyeing the DDF 10% toner...

I'd think you could add a cleanser no problem. But remember glycolic acid dissolves the "glue" that holds dead skin cells together. It's nice to have in a cleanser but without being on your face very long, the effect it can have is probably relatively small. The toner since it stays on your skin may contribute more. The only thing is there is only so much dead skin you can loosen up so you may see really great results at first and then it will not be so noticeable after a while.

I've used the MDF cleasner, toner (MDF calls it "lotion" but it's a toner) and clearing complex before all at one time and had no major hassles and saw big improvement in my skin. I only used the clearing complex on problem spots though and not all over. Personally, I would go for the cleanser and toner, or the cleanser and the gel but not all three as I think it would be too drying for my skin. Also, I'd be more inclined to go the cleanser + gel route because the gel has something to counteract the dryness whereas the toner does not.

thanks mabsy,

I'll give the md cleanser a shot. there's a place nearby that sells it and I have a $10 gift certificate.

I like the sounds of the clearing complex but see it has a few things that irritate my skin in it...too bad.

I use md forte glycolic cleanser (30%) in the morning and the 20% lotion in the mornings and evenings. I don't think that it is too much. That being said, I think when I use up all the cleanser I will switch to something else. As someone said before, the cleanser is on the skin for so little time, I think that you get more bang for your buck with the lotion and there are so many more fun cleansers to try.

abejita, did you start out with their level I and II or right to the III?

I can be pretty sensitive so I prefer to go it slow. I wish somewhere around here sold MD Forte. It doesn't seem to be available in Canada (or at least not that I've found so far)

I went straight to the higher levels. (the III cleanser and II lotion) The cleanser strength didn't bother me at all, but I had to go back and order the level one lotion (I use the glycare and it only has level I and II) If you have sensitive skin, I would definitely suggest starting out slow. My skin is not sensitive in the least, and it would have been a big mistake for me to try to tough it out with the II lotion. It took a little over a week for the slight stinging to stop. When I went up to the II, it was the same thing, about a week to aclamate to it. Now I do not have any stinging.

Thanks Liz. I'm going to give a cleanser a shot. Still looking for somewhere in BC to get MD Forte. I can't let my parents find anymore packages at the door right now! (I have to ask them to pay for my school tuition in sept)

lianne - try eBay. There are several MD Forte items listed and the seller "skincare_101" ships worldwide.

Lianne,

I recently contacted an Ebay seller called DV8 or something. His prices are cheap but he wants to charge USD9 for shipping to Canada, so I ended up ordering from skin-etc.com.

Ebay has the best prices but shipping can kill. Just to let you know about DV8 so you don't have to ask again. Some are rather reasonable though - like one MD Formulations seller which will ship for USD4. Smile

I've ordered a few things from skin-etc...it seems to take a long time to get here though. Probably will get it from them eventually.

I saw that ebayer had a note to contact about shipping so i'll have to do that, because the prices were really good.

Funny. I always get my stuff from them in exactly one week. Maybe because you're in BC and further? I'm in Toronto.

maybe the vancouver customs is just slow? I've been waiting almost 3 weeks now for another package from Texas.

Yes, I think customs is definitely the culprit. What I realised is that if you've ordered a ton of stuff, customs hold on to the parcel longer then if you just have a single item in a small box.

I order stuff from skin-etc all of the time. They are in grapevine, tx and I am in Dallas (about 45 min away) If I place my order by 3pm, I get my package the next day. They are very quick. I would also suspect that your package is being held up by customs and not slow shipping from skin-etc.

oh, I know you weren't. I just wanted to reassure you that it more than likely wasn't them, that they are a good company. It just sucks when things get held up at the border.
