Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share the lesson I learnt today with you all...
I religiously use sunscreen every day whether I wear makeup or not, and I use invisible zinc (30plus), and have done for a year or so - when at work, when out walking. Anyway, after my last order from EDS I got two samples of products, with sunscreens in them, and today I decided to try one.
It had an spf of 15+, but since I thought I was only going to be outside for 30-45 mins, I thought it would be o.k. All I wanted to do was walk down to my local store and get the paper - its 15 degrees celcius outside and overcast - little patches of sun......
AND I GOT BURNT!!!! My cheeks are hot and red, and tight. I am very mad at myself and have learnt not to mess with your sunscreen (if it works of course)! |

It was actually glyquin xm - with broadspectrum spf 15 it said...I don't particularly need treatment for hyperpigmentation, but thought Id try it. I didn't bother putting my 30+ over it..that was my lesson.
Face is better now though |

im sorry for you,Melissa...especially cause you use it so exemplary...I use a verry good sunscrean from Weleda,a study in germany implied that its a "verry good" (There was only 3 verry goood!!)and it helps to get a good tan quicker... |

Do you also use an AHA or Retinoid regularly? They can make your skin sun-sensitive as can some antibiotics resulting in that flushed/tight appearance/reaction. |

Betterat40 is right, the things she mentioned may had made your more sensitive than you were and could be the culprit.
I'm sure you weren't too happy, sorry you got burnt. |

Hi to all,
yes, i am using an AHA and retinol- but the thing is that my usual sunscreen has been ever so faithful and I have never burnt, even after using the retinol in the morning and applying the invisible zinc - I assumed that all "braod-spectrum" sunscreens should do the same, even with an SPF of 15plus, otherwise, why would we bother with AHA's and retinol when its just gonna burn us and damage our skin anyway.
I guess I am just entering the "sunscreen controversy", I didn't realise it existed until I looked at this forum and so many people have so many issues with it. I guess the take home message is that when you find one that works, doesn't break you out or make you look greasy, then stick with it!!! And I will do that from now on, even if it means i wear two layers!
Just for interest sake: I actually am going to purchase the glyquin xm as i loved the effect on my skin - I've never used a lightener before - as I am fair anyway - but I had soooo many comments at work on how fresh and healthy I looked (or my skin anyway), which was AMAZING considering it was a sleepless night. How can i resist now????
Oh, and if anyone has any comments on the use of these products...feel free to enlighten me....I am happy experimenting with new things right now and EDS samples are working for me (and them $$$) |
