After hearing everyone rave and rave about Dr. H, I've become really curious.. and am interested in giving the line a try (being that I currently use the very harsh - but effective - Clinique 3-Step System).
So I've got a couple of questions.. I definitely definitely want to try the Cream Cleanser.. but what else should I purchase?
I'm 18 and have crazy skin.. sometimes oily, sometimes dry, acne-prone (it's much better than it was when I was 15, I'm hoping it'll go away fairly soon.. next couple of years).. fairly large pores on my cheeks, which is becoming more and more of a bother..
And about acne.. if I used the Dr H cleanser (among other products) what should I used to treat my acne? I've learned that Clinique's acne line doesn't work in conjunction with other products, I only get results when I use it with the 3step. I need something I don't have to go to a dermetoligist to get!
Thank you |

Hiya taintdlov, you called? Welcome to the forum!
I'm a member of the DH CC "cult". Love it! Haven't used anything else from the line though. I do have their travel kit (including the CC) for impure skin which I will try soon. This may be a good and inexpensive way (abt 20 USD) for you to try the line before investing in full sizes. Or, at no cost, get samples from your nearest Sephora. They are quite generous and you can at least rule out possible irritation after 7-10 days use.
Sorry I can't help much. Hang on coz I'm sure loyal DH users will post soon. Good luck! |

I think you should definitely give the oily skin trial pack a go. THe samples in there do last quite a while, esp the creams.
If you use the entire line at once, it may help to balance skin out.
I was on clinique 3 step before switching to DH, the skin type III products were SOO drying and harsh, I had such oily skin afterwards. And I was also using all those pore minimiser things too, which really ruined my skin. Though a few people said my spots got better... but my skin became quite red/raw looking.
I used light oils similar to DH day oil, and it really helped with oiliness and spots.
I was so afraid that my skin would break out, as I had never tried non-conventional skin care with oils and plant extracts. But I must say it was the first time I ever saw a difference in my skin!
I had huge pores with all the products I used, but I used the clay mask with DH and it was great for sucking all that sebum out of the pores. ( I know clay mask gets mixed reviews, but you have to try it for yourself to know!)
A DH beautician told me that you can actually use the steam concetrate (included in the trial tin) as a spot treatment. But it may not be strong enough to treat bigger spots, so you can use somethng like a pure tea tree/lavender essential oil. |

Yes I agree, try the the travel set first, the one for oily/imure skin. This is what I did first as it is a lot of money to splash out on the full sizes.
I first got interested in Dr H in the winter when I was having a severe acne flar up and needed something to calm my skin right down, the Dr H did that.
I now use Carekate's recipe for homemade Dr H CC, toner (My Dr H ran out so now I use a mixture of witch hazel and rose water oh and the Apple Cider Vinegar toner at night - see recipes).
The Dr H Normalising Day Oil is a must I use this every day with the Transluscent Bronze Concentrate mixed in and the Rejuvenating Face mask is another Holy Grail, this I use as an intensive moisturiser during the day over the Normalising Day Oil for a couple of weeks at a time, it softens any acne scars and freshens up my complexion.
The best thing I discovered is only cleansing and toning in the evening, no moisturiser, it has helped my skin ten fold, I used to wake up with very oily, clogged pores but now my skin is lovely in the mornings.
I hope this helps. |

I think the kit would be a great idea and you'll get to try out the products without investing lots of money. Personally I absolutely *love* the Dr Hauschka cleansing cream and I always have it in my bathroom. I think given your skin type the mud masks might also be good and perhaps the rhythmic night conditioner. |

i just got the Dr. H CC and rejuvenating mask.....so far so good!
I also used to use clinique's 3 step and i hated it!!! The toner dried up my skin and it did not help with my acne.
I suggest using the Dr. H CC, then clarifying toner, and rejuvenating mask. |

I love DR H also and way back in the past I too was a clinique user. Remember that with clinique being so harsh there will be a spell of your skin adjusting to NOT using such harsh products no matter what brand you try so hang in there - your skin will love you for leaving the harshness of clinique behind. Dr H is very calming no matter your skin issue and I am sure you will have great results with it. LIke Masby I would try the rythymic night conditioner also as it really balances the skin. Good luck! |

I'm a Dr H addict with oily, acne prone skin. I use the cleansing cream, clarifying toner (before I started making my own) and normalizing day oil on a daily basis. for treatments I use the facial steam bath and cleansing clay mask together, and I also use the rejuvenating mask. And, as Mabsy suggested, the (very very expensive) rythmic night conditioner might be very good for you! |

Thank you everyone for all of your advice! I still I think I should use some specific acne treatment, because just keeping my face clean & healthy has never done the trick (acne sucks).. with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide (preferrably the SA).. any suggestions? |

Hello
Your skin sounds very close to my, I used to work for clinique so I know what products your talking about. I personally think the 3-step is junk, and that there are alot better products out there that wown't over dry the skin and strip it like the 3-step does. But if it's working out for you and see inprovement, stick with it!.
As for Dr H. I also was hearing all these great things about the line and the CC and this and that. so I went to Sephora, bought over $250 in Dr H products Just about all that I need for my skin. At first I felt as if my skin wasn't getting cleansed enough felt dirty, after about 2 weeks of using Dr H my redness in my skin really calmed down and my skin look so much better. pores did look smaller. about a month of using the line i started to get real deep bumps. on my chin and cheeks.very deep acne. I too an acne prone and thought that the product where working.. I thought wrong.. What they basicly did for me is really calmed my skin down and filled it with oil. I stopped using the product gave whatever i had left to my mom who has dry dry skin, she like them alot. but I don't think that Dr H product are to be used on skin such as ours. I mean this is what happened to me it may be different for you, give the trail pack a try and see how you like them..
let me know.. |

if you have really bad acne, cleansers alone wont do the trick. You should see a dermatologist, they will prescribe you topical acne cream. A really good one is clynoxal gel. It is not even the least bit drying, and clears up acne. |

If you read any thread in this forum you will find that someone's ideal product is someone else's reject. I don't say this to dissuade you, I just want you to keep in mind that how your skin reacts is very individual. The bottom line is always how it works for you.

The Dr H CC gave me a whole new level of CLEAN (coaxed out the gunk from my pores! ) and HEALTHY (a step nearer to poreless with every use, plus glow to boot! ). Its going to feel different from the effect of Clinique which when I briefly tried it many years ago stripped my skin and triggered more oil production thus *reinforcing* the acne cycle.
If you don't have any major breakouts at the moment why not try the DH kit for a while, see the effects on congested areas and then determine if you still need BP or SA? Just my 2 cents. |

Either one works fine for me. If I'm feeling cheap I make it, if I'm feeling lazy I buy it! |
