I am reposting this question as no-one has replied on the other DIY thread. Hopefully one of you guys can answer this question!!
I was wondering if you could mix L-Ascorbic Acid crystals in with your moisturizer or serum just like Philosphy's Hope and a Prayer Vitamin C powder? Any one know if there is anything else to Hope and a Prayer apart from vitamin c and also what form of vitamin c is in their powder (is it L-Ascorbic?) |

I think this question has come up before. It really depends on the ingredients in your cream. L-Ascorbic Acid is water soluble, so you need to make sure it works with your cream. Then, you need to make sure you have a measuring system worked out to get the right % of Vit C in the cream. In this case, you can have too much of a good thing. I think someone said it could cause peeling, if you use too much. |

Thanks Faith! I just tried to find that post but wow! There are so many posts with the words L-ascorbic acid powder or vitamin c powder it was nigh on impossible to spot it. Does anyone remember how much powder to use? 1/4 teaspoon? 1/8 maybe? I just got my Solgar L-ascorbic acid crystals and I am itching to try 'em out! |

Try adding pbsadhaka to the search, or Darren. He was the one that mentioned the peeling effect.
As well, you should just mix it daily...right? As you use it... |

A few years ago while I was living in Australia I went to the health food shop and bought some Vitamin C powder. I remember it said Ascorbic acid on the packet but I don't think it was L-ascorbic. I thought I would be clever by mixing a spoon of it with water and putting it on my face I went yellow! My skin broke out and I peeled! Now I am very wary of just slathering on just any amount! Hehe! |

Glad you found the thread...and let us know if you can actually understand the formula Darren gave to measure the quantity of Vit-C powder. I’m afraid I am COMPLETELY mathematically-challenged. I can balance my checkbook or figure out if someone owes me money, but when confronted with any kind of algebraic/mathematic formula, my mind goes blank, I wet my pants and start gibbering like an idiot!!
Okay, so I’m exaggerating – I don’t really wet my pants, but the rest of it holds true. If you can convert/translate Darren’s formula so that even simpletons like me can comprehend it, the Queen Simpleton would be eternally grateful.... |

I looked at the post and I thought if he said:
"You would add 3 scoops (level) of your ascorbic acid powder for every 30 scoops of your B5 gel. That would give you a 10% end product (roughly)"
- that means it would be one scoop powder to every ten scoops of gel. So, I just tried it that way and it seems to work well. I used water instead of gel. I put a teeny scoop of powder with 10 teeny scoops of water in a little sample jar and mixed it up (enough for about two days). Then I put it on my skin and let it dry before I put on my serum and face cream. I don't know if it really would work with water but it definitely tingles, so maybe it is!! I don't think it would work if I wasn't using it almost immediately tho! |
