I've got my ten year school reunion this year, and just wanted to know how I might get that "glow"? I am using a skin care routine of glycolic cleanser, peel and multi-vitamin serum with c, e and retinol. I've also tried epidermx, with some success...but did break out and continue to after a week or so.
Just wondered what other things might be useful for a special occasion? |

First of all I would start from the inside out, detox your system cut back on alcohol, coffee, white bread/pasta etc. Eat lots of salads, vegies, fish you know the good stuff
Make an effort to go for a good walk every day or do some gardening....or play cricket!!!
I always find I have the best 'glows' when I have been getting a lot fresh air.
Take a multi vitamin supplement along with Zinc and fish oils.
Finally relax, think positive and look forward to the reunion
Dr Hauschka Rejuvenating face mask works as a moisturiser during the day every day for a month really freshens up the complexion.
Oh and go test drive/hire a fantastic sports car for the reunion |

Great suggestions, rosebud! The sportscar idea cracks me up! I agree....the glow, for me, begins on the inside. I would also buy or make...see DIY thread....a good body polish/ scrub that will efoliate and soften skin. I made one this weekend that included the ground almond paste (from caretake's homemade Dr. H CC):
finely ground almonds (paste)
brown sugar
honey
glycerin
jojoba oil
avocado oil
sweet almond oil
a few drops of sweet orange essential oil
Apply and relax--as best you can with this combo all over your body--for a few minutes before showering. This made my skin incredibly soft, smooth and moisturized. This also preps your skin for a fabulous faux self-tanner!
I love all of rosebud's suggestions, but one....I could never give up pasta!!!
Ciao! |

Really great suggestions from everyone. People might be tired of hearing this but I second the Dr. H CC. That and antioxidant skin brighteners.
Melissa49, don't worry if on the big day itself you find you don't have enough glow - you can always BUY it. Seriously, a careful layering of blush/highlighters (darker matte color under lighter shimmer) would increase the glow factor. Have a great time! |

Hye everyone..been working hard today, haven't had a chance to log in...
great suggestions, should have mentioned that I wasn't averse to "buying the glow', that's possibly more realistic since it actually is less than three weeks away. considered the hair thing, also considered the new strappy sandal and outfit thing (i think that is a given). Don't play cricket, does watching it count????
I do get outside at least once a day for at least half an hour (we work too hard these days. - I want to play all afternoon).
I was thinking of investing in the Dr HCC - have never tried it and probably should. Hope it doesn't break me out - most "natural" products do. (strictly chemical chic ,oh and you can bet your bottom dollar that despite all my best intentions, I am far too damn lazy to make my own concoction and I am not too proud to admit that- can barely cook a meal, let alone a DIY cleanser/toner whatever... ).
Thought i might also have to purchase the Valmont renewing pack, hey i was probably just looking for an excuse...if I getting new hair, new outfit (potentially the hired sportscar - the boy will LOVE that!! ), why not blow the budget entirely with some much needed (not.. ) skincare??? i deserve it.
Thanks heaps |

The best "GLOW" way for me is to use a beauty recipe!
Blend a BIG CUPFUL of tomatoes, squeeze half a lemon in, and drink up!
Do this in the days leading up to your reunion twice a day, should be awesome! |

If you've had problems with natural products before then now may not be the best time to try the Dr H CC. I love the stuff and I do think that you should give it a go (and I hope that you will!) but it seems a bit risky to do this so close to the day. My suggestions would be to drink plenty of water, perhaps start taking a good supplement (MSM, silica, or something similar), and then use masks etc to get the rest of the way
On the day before I'd use a good exfoliating mask. PSF Skincare Pumpkin Mask and Eminence Organics Pumpkin and Orange masks come to mind here. These are natural as well so perhaps not the best for you. Get a mask with some AHAs IMO. Then on the day use a mask like Valmont Renewing Pack or Dr Hauschka Rejuvenating. Before you apply your makeup use Orlane Morning Recovery Concentrate or Guerlain Midnight Secret if you have any.
Take with you some light blush to touch up with. Something like BE Clear Radiance or BeneFit Dandelion...

I would stick to what you already know works well for you, the last thing you want is to end up having a bad reaction to anything just before your reunion |

Hey...just properly read your first post rosebud...cut down on alcohol?? Really? Nah...couldn't be right
(FYI: I am not really an alcholic, despite what my family and friends think (am joking), but...I do so love to relax with a wine. Promise to drink once...no twice a week, will that do? )
Hey Mabsy, I have seriously considered Guerlain's midnight secret...if you had to sacrifice either your orlane morning concentrate, or the Guerlain (or gwerlane as I like to pronounce it...you cannot imagine my embarassment when I went into a chemist and asked for a very aussie treza instead of tresor by lancome ) what would you do?? Pick one-unfortunately I have no budget for the time being (result of my hard work), need some unadulterated spoiling,so dont worry about the cost ( I do need help........) |

Love the Treza story! Hope the SA didn't try to be all snobby and teach you the pronunciation. I would stick with the Orlane because I don't like the smell of the Guerlain I know both of these products are quite expensive (especially the Guerlain) but they do last ages because you only need a tiny little bit. My suggestion to you would be to go to the Guerlain counter and see if you can get a sample |

Hi Melissa,
I haven't tried the Guerlain but I am addicted to the Orlane Morning Recovery Complex...I've used it for years - you really get a nice glow when you use it...I think it is absolutely fabulous and would recommend it in a minute! You can throw it in your purse, too....it comes in an opaque pump bottle and you need just a bit - you'd be surprised! It's great stuff!! It instantly sweeps away the tired under eye look and gives a beautiful glow....another HUGE plus is that it facilitates makeup application beautifully.....alot of these instant result serums give you a lift and enhanced glow but some tend to leave a sort of dry feeling to the skin....making makeup app less than ideal...which you don't want on a special night...with the ORlane MRC make-up goes on like a dream...you can even mix it with liquid foundation for an extra KA-BANG! LOVE this stuff!!!.....If you have an Orlane counter near you, go in and use the tester -- the serum is well contained so I wouldn't be too concerned about contamination...(that's me, anyway..) Good Luck! I'm sure you'll look just FAB!

I don't know a whole lot about which products would be best, just wanted to say have fun!! I missed my 10 year reunion, decided to go to my step-sister's wedding instead. It was ok I guess, no 10 year reunion though.
I bet you will look and feel smashing, what fabulous tips you've gotten so far! Take care, Annette |

Take fish oil the night before and do a mild glycolic peel. In the morning use a microfiber wash cloth and toner then put on vit C and go for at least a half hour run (get circulation up). Iced tea bags (or iced witch hazel pads) on the eyes help refresh right before you're off.
The diet Rosebud's recommending really did make my skin nice even reduced wrinkles (I wasn't using any skin care products when I started). It does take months to see the full impact though. I also drink red wine most evenings it doesn't seem to do anything bad (this is the way I like to get antioxidants ). |

Lolli....so sorry you missed your reunion. I'm probably in the minority, but I think they are so much fun....interesting, and entertaining! I was nearly 8 months pregnant with my second when I attended my 10 year, and, although I was not into any serious skin care products at the time, felt like a million bucks with my tent-size dress and hottie hubby on my arm. Was using Mary Kay and various department store brand skin care for my 20th year reunion,....still feeling fabulous with the same hottie hubby by my side.
sharky....I'm curious about the fish oil. Do fish oil capsules provide overnight benefits? I'll have to get me some of those! |

Most of the benefits of fish oil are longer term. There are a few studies, however, that claim "plumping" of the skin about 12 hours after use. |

Sounds great to me! My husband takes them....I'll start taking taking them tonight. |

That is so sweet, debra. Makes me go ahhh. in fact one of my friends is also going to be 8 months pregnant at the reunion! i am sure she will look great.
Just to change the subject a little, I wanted to also mention that I have attempted to take fish oil tablets (salmon oil to be precise). i started getting headaches about 4-5 hours after taking them...even though it said on the bottle that they are for the treatment of them. i thought it might be a co-incidence and kept taking them...but ended up having a head-ache for three days, has anyone else experienced this??? |

I take them in the evening before I go to bed and never have gotten a headache. They are blood thinners are you taking any other blood thinner? Also you might be allergic to some trace component and should try another brand.
If that doesn't work Flax meal also gives good Omega 3 oils but they are not efficiently converted into the active form in many people.
Good luck.
P.S. you might want to ask your MD about this the next time you go. Getting a headache after taking a blood thinner might be a sign of a problem (e.g. clotting problem or weak vessels in the brain) or it could be nothing I've had allergic reactions to pills before. |

hey sharky,
Thanks for that, I didn't realise they affected blood viscosity, in fact I may look that up to see exactly what part of the clotting pathway they affect. I certain that there are no issues, I am not on any other meds, and not sensitive to asprin or any other meds that affect the blood/clotting etc.
I get headaches at any sign of stress, allergy or infection...I am prone to them. I possibly could be allergic to something in them. Natural things just do not seem to agree with me
Back to the thread though, plan on buying orlane morning recovery complex, the valmont renewing pack (I will of course use one in the morning, and one at night...thereby justifying the purchase). Also, I received a sample of the psf emerginc lotion...it is very good. I am now considering purchasing that...especially as I dont have a vit c product yet...
(I know how much everyone loves it.very embarrased!!!) |

yay! 10 year reunion! mine's coming up here in a couple of years... can't believe how time flies...
anyway, just wanted to agree with rosebud about her diet recommendation and agree with mabsy about drinking water. when i read your first post the first thing that came to mind was water so i especially wanted to emphasize drinking lots of it. it's amazing what things you put into your body shows on your skin. also get plenty of sleep!
and have fun! |

I got headaches when i tried Evening Primrose supplements few years ago.....after maybe 7-8 hrs. After I did some research on net I found out that it was, indeed , a possible side effect of them..I dont know about fish oils though. |

Hi there, some of you might remember me posting a few months ago on a similar subject (needed a bit of oomph for my wedding on 26th August).
I have now tried amngst other things:
Cellcosmet
ADCE
Valmont Renewing Pack
Decleor Hydrotenseur and many other Decleor items
Genie Line smoother
Joey New York Line up
Dior 5 min wrinkle remover (they should be tried under the trade descriptions act!)
and basically have now decided that...nothing works!
I am still toying with ADCE however. I got the 5 day sample pack and I have to say that my 11's were on the way out but unfortunately they are not my major area of concern. I may possibly get some for a Xmas pressie to myself. The problem I had was that I did not really enjoy using it. Some products seem luxurious but I didn't feel it with ADCE.
So...my plan is: The day before, I will have a CACI non surgical facelift, use YSL exfoliator and have a California Spray Tan. In the evening I will give Midnight Secret a bash, and the next day I will be plunging my face in a sink full of cold water and ice cubes, (broken veins? who cares!) using Gail Hayman Youth Lift and Joey Line up (neither of which lived up to the hype but are OK ish),applying a little Dior Bronze, Revlon Skinlights, Bobby Brown shimmer brick and my absolute fave, Guerlain bubble blush. If I don't look good it'll be tough -nobody can say I haven't tried. I will keep you posted! |
