I don't know why, but i feel skeptical about these sort of spray on sunscreens. Somehow i feel that a thin mist of liquid won't be able to supply protection.
Am I wrong over here? Do spraqy on sunscreens work better for acne prone skin and is avene a good brand?
If spray on sunscreens are good, then why do so little people use them since they are not greasy or whatsoever? |

A very good question - BadBird, are you out there? |

Also, how much should you apply, with a spray and with a cream/paste? With the Skinceuticals Physical SPF 30 I am using, in terms of the size of a green pea - I'm using maybe 1.5 peas/a large pea Is this enough? I can't use anymore, it already looks gobbed on and gives that weird white look and makes my hairline greasy. |

I love spray sunscreens. I'm currently loving LRP's new SPF30 spray. (Canada)
The PPD is a little low, but it's a great formulation. Spray s/s is great for my acne prone skin, that's for sure. I have no experience w/ Avene.
About 10 sprays is equal to what you should be wearing. You spray into palms and transfer to face. I don't bother though. I just close my eyes and let'er rip.
As for cream/lotion. You need 1/2 teaspoon for the face and neck. Obviously, in "sprays" that's about 10.(Because that's what you should be wearing.)
1/4 teaspoon for face only. I recall reading it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 3ml. (F&N)
How well it gets dispersed depends on the person, so god knows if they are actually getting it sprayed on their face 1) in it's entirety 2) evenly. Some even say 5ml. I would not talk anyone out of 5ml's.
Most people don't apply enough, (or bother to reapply as often as they should) regardless of base/vehicle.
Extra note: Some apply only a little amount; usually what they assume is enough, or the point where any more would be cosmetically inelegant) and not only that, they don't bother reappling. Bad practices all around. |

Thanks! I figured out that based on the Law of Nines, used to calculate body surface area in burn patients, the face is supposed to represent 9%. So, that would equal about 3 ml of the 1oz (30 ml) application recommended for the whole body. So your response confirms my best guess - though I would also err on the side of a more liberal application, too. |

I use the Avene spray in both SPF40 and SPF50 and they are both really good, no problems on my oily skin, I spray into my hand then apply to my face.
I prefer the thinner consistency as opposed to creams which can be too heavy for my skin. |

At this stage, as far as I know, we don't have spray on sunscreen here in Australia. I remember seeing them on the beaches in Miami and Hawaii, but that was applied by a professional. SO, the spray on sunscreens that you are talking about are in a bottle/can that can be bought in the pharmacy??? How high an SPF factor do they go???
Thanks
