hiya! have been testing out several mineral makeup brands and am wondering if anybody can help.

have normal to dry skin, so i started off with the loose powder versions (and for the higher spf protection).

1. tried JI pressed powder in amber. liked the coverage but noticed small bumps and breakouts. would the loose powder be better?

2. so far, glomineral in golden medium is comfortable but i think it turns darker later in the day, making my face darker than my neck. it is also a little itchy.

3. dare not try bare escentuals because some reviews said that they make your face shiny.

is it normal for the loose powder to cause my skin to be itchy? i really want to find a loose powder to replace my NORMAL loose powder and sunblock. it seems so hard to find a mineral powder that feels as smooth and covers comfortably.

i apply using a pure squirrel brush for both the loose and pressed powders, but it take so long to cover my face. i actually tried putting them on with a puff and liked the results better. am i doing something wrong?

any recommendations? thanks!

Hi there,

I'm unable to talk about most foundations, but just FYI, I've been using Bare Escentuals ID make up for a few years now and I absolutely love it.

When you say that you've heard it makes skin "shiny" what do you actually mean? I have extremely oily skin and it actually does WONDERS for my skin. It does not cause acne (even after 8-9 hours of wear!), and it feels lighter than liquid foundation. I always hated when my liquid foundation would MELT on my skin in humid weather. Bare Escentuals doesn't give you that all-around greasy feeling. There's still coverage -- and you know that there's foundation on your skin -- but it's not as overwhelming as most liquid foundations.

I don't think powders are supposed to make your skin feel itchy -- it might be the brush you're using. Sometimes, when I don't clean my brush as often as I'm supposed to, my skin will get itchy -- probably because the brush is dirtier than usual. The other possibility is that you might be having a sensitive reaction to the make up -- in which case you want to stop using it and try another brand probably.

Jane Iredale loose powder is supposed to be like Bare Escentuals -- in either case, I would strongly recommend a mineral powder because they work wonders and you don't even have to use a lot.

Let me know if you have any particular questions. Hope this helps to some extent!

thanks lisa for your kind help. i read reviews that some users switch to JI or glominerals after trying Bare Escentuals powders, due to the shine factor. i have no idea if it is true but i am really now jsut stabbing in the dark, hoping i can find one that i like.

i bought a whole set of brushes for the mineral makeup but will try ot celan them all and try the samples again. i actually don't need foundation/coverage, just spf coverage and a smooth dry surface. i was quite comfortable with sunblock and baby powder on top, in the past, until i was told that baby powder dries up the skin but causes congestions beneath.
