I learned this when I took an aromatherapy class. Instead of using drier sheets, take a clean washcloth & put a few drops of lavender essential oil on it & toss it in your drier. Your clothes will come out smelling divine, and without all of the other chemicals on them. Patchouli is very nice too, but very heady, so just 2 or 3 drops will do a large load.

this is fab idea! never thought of it. i'm sure you can substitute with your favorite perfume as well. i love dewberry oil from the bodyshop... its a clean scent. |

i use tide and gain. gain has the loveliest scents!
a tip for greasy laundry. if you get any grease stains on a particular clothing, do a spot treatment with liquid dish soap. tap liquid dish soap onto the grease spot leave for 1/2 hr and wash as usual. if it still remains, do another spot treatment and wash again.
for greasy dirty clothes, i use wash the whole load with a few circular swirls around the agitator with quality liquid dish soap, agitate for 2 cycles and wash as normal
it removes the grease without bleeding any colour from clothes. |

I've been using Seventh Generation laundry detergent. It is phosphate free & 100% plant based & biodegradable. I saw an ad on TV for Coldwater Tide, and I am tempted to try it. The only problem is that it is still full of chemicals & petroleum based. I wish they would have made it 100% enviro-friendly. |
Seventh Generation is the only laundry detergent I'll use. I buy it in bulk from Amazon (free shipping!) in the Lavender and Blue Eucalyptus scent. It makes my clothes and linens smell so luxurious, and I love that it's environmentally friendly and cruelty-free. They also make a wonderful matching cruelty-free fabric softener--- apparently regular fabric softener is made from lard, blech! |

I've been considering using this so thank you for bringing it up. I've changed over to mostly environmentally friendly items and involve myself in recyclying of any form - My path for 2010 is for more of the same. It will likely be a switchover that is gradual but still.... reading about this product has me ready to go. |

I'm using one from costco and it's natural based (free of loads of chemical additives) and its eco-friendly so you only use a really small amount compared to other detergents. I have slightly sensitive skin so I stick to more natural brands for washing my clothes - it does make a difference! |
