Hello all,

Well as some of you may remember I'm over in the US on an extended holiday right now. I've just come back up to Virginia from Texas and brought with me the most stubborn cough I've ever had. A few days after returning I came down with a cold (achey body, sore throat, runny nose, slight cough, extremely tired). That passed after a few days and I seemed to be getting better but for the last week and a half I havent been able to shake this cough. I sound like a dog barking, it's horrible!! I get these fits where I cough so hard that I find it difficult to breathe.

I've got some cough medicine here - Delsym I think it's called. My boyfriend picked it up at the pharmacy but I've been taking it for 4 days and it's not helping at all.

Going to a doctor over here is difficult and expensive for a foreigner - can anyone recommend a natural remedy or something else that I can buy at the drugstore???

The only positive thing to come from this is that my stomach muscles are getting a major workout!! Laughing Laughing Laughing

P.S. I know this is gross, but for a little further info - I'm not really coughing up a lot of flem, there is a bit but it seems to be more of a dry cough. Ewww. Sorry for anyone trying to eat while they surf the net. Laughing I just dont know whether that makes a diff to what medicine I should be taking.

Whenever I get that type of sickness, be it cough or cold, I take as much vitamin C as I can handle with lots of fluids. I would also definitely avoid dairy products. Also, hot tea and honey with lemon is very soothing for your throat and would break up congestion if you did have it. Good luck, sorry you aren't feelign well.

This may sound strange, but taking good quality protein with a dose of multivitamins for a few days may give you some relief.

One of my mum's friends got sick from her kiddies, so she took some protein powder with milk/water for about 3 days and her lingering cough has gone.

Make sure it's a powder with a high % of protein for each gram of powder. Some are only like 50% protein, the rest fat or carb.

Sorry to hear that.

Can you buy antibiotics from the pharmacist over there? If not, lemon and honey, honey is soothing & contains a natural antibiotic, lemon has vit C and kills bugs.
