Hi All,

My dear friend's son has type I diabetes. I know there are a few doctor members on this board. Is there a cure out there, or is there an expert on this subject ?

I found this on the web, anyone who knows more about it ? or better yet, anyone tried it ?
It's called "Diabeticine", http://www.techmedica.com/

ANy comments will be greatly appreciated.

There are things that are very useful for Type II such as diet and many good drugs that if things haven't gone too far may over 2 years improve the condition. Unfortunately for Type I aside from inhalable insulin there is little new (I have a good friend working on this and it is in last stage trials for full scale use). This at least makes it less traumatic for a child. The horizen is hopeful though, there are unpublished stem cell results that are encouraging. I'm on the research end and not in this field but I hear a lot and staved off type II by diet.

No I haven't but I really do not think it would be of any use for Type I. Sorry.

Hi Diderot,

I just wanted to let you know a bit about diabetes and how you can do less damage to the body with Type 1.
My husband has had diabetes since he was a little boy, so about 24 years or longer. He recently went to one of the best Endocrinologist (specialist for diabetes) and had zero damage to his body, zero.

What he does is test a lot, uses several different insulins and lives a very clean lifestye (no:coffee, alcohol, cigarettes, drugs (rec or from the doctor) he works out a lot which he says really helps and takes supplements to help circulation and protect his body, especially the fine capillaries in the eyes (apparently they are the first areas to be damaged)

I hope this information will give you a little hope. THey are doing a lot of research on it and hope a cure is near.

Thanks for the replies, certainly very helpful Razz

I went into my favourite health store yesterday, and consulted the "walking dictionary". To be honest, I didn't expect an answer from him, but he did. He actually said he gets some real good responses with a few of the supplements. He told he personally knows someone who has been off insulin for a few years now. certainly great news, and I am gonna bring my friend there to talk to him.

I think his best option now is to pick a doctor who practices natural medicine.

I have the names of the 4 most effective supplements at home, I can post them if anyone is interested in them Razz

Supplements can help prevent damage but not cure the diabetes. Alpha Lipoic acid and Actyl-L carnitine have been shown to moderate nerve damage (periferal neuropathy). The inhalable insulin should make things much better because you can more easily spread out doses.

Hi,

For Type 1 diabetes I have never heard of supplements curing it,as this is impossible. I think perhaps the man at the supplement store was refering to a Type 2 diabetes who may have had to take insulin. Type 2 still has some use fo the pancreas while Type 1 has zero natural insulin released.

I am no expert yet have been to some of the most cutting edge lectures on diabetes by leading researchers.

Supplements can make the difference of a better, longer, less complications quality of life.
