Ooooooo....so excited! Just tried someting else...since I read that Lanolin is what sheeps produce to protect their wool from wind and rain, I thought to myself...m...I wonder if it will work on my hair (my ends are always dry and break)...and WOW! My hair looks soooo shiny! I put a few a little in my hand, rubbed, then rubbed into my hair...and my hair looks amazing. I'm going to have to get a big tube of this Lanolin stuff...Carecate- let me know how the iherb.com natural Lanolin is...hoping the consistency is the same as Purelan 100. |

Happyhippy did you put it on dry or wet hair, before or after shampoo? If you got such amazing results after only one application, this just might be what I should use too. Currently I'm giving myself weekly treatments with Ojon and I am not impressed. However in view of the price, I feel I must press on and finish it

I put it on my hair dry- kind of how you would use a glossing-serum...just a few "drops" rubbed in my palms and then into my hair...(too much would probably make my hair look greasy).
You got me thinking again, and my next experiment is going to be to use it as a treatment, drench my hair in it, and leave it in over-night |

Ooooh lemme know how that experiment turns out I'm going to order some from iHerb next time I order my supply of HA capsules. (My local health food store has it, but at $14 v's iHerb at $4.79 for the same size bottle I wasn't that desperate ).

FYI - the 100% pure lanolin fromwww.iHerb.com is DEFINITELY not the same consistency that you described the PurLan being! It comes in a large tub and it’s a solid consistency and very hard to make “spreadable” even after warming it between your palms. It’s also REALLY sticky! I felt like I had glue on my hands.... Slightly OT here, but one of my cats went absolutely ape-shit over the lanolin when she smelled it on my hands and my lips. I don’t know if she thought it was lambchops or what, but she started rolling back and forth on her back and “twirdling” (i.e.: that strange sound that cats make when they’re “calling” to another cat).
Anyway, another thing about the 100% pure lanolin for iHerb is that it had a very strange scent so I can’t see myself wanting to put it on my mouth very often. I think I’m going to have to bite the bullet and make a stop at Babys-R-Us or something to get the PurLan....
BTW, because of the consistency of my iHerb lanolin and how much it feels like glue, I absolutely would not put it in my hair because I’d be afraid it would cause it to tangle beyond redemption!! Even after I melted a bit in the microwave, it still felt glue-y and sticky. |

Carrie, I ordered the liquid lanolin from iHerb and its on its way as I type After reading what you had to say about the solid variety, I'm so glad I went for the bottle.
It'll be interesting to see if my cats have the same reaction as yours

Damnit, I didn't even see a liquid version when I placed my order. *pouts and stamps foot* |

don't worry Carecate...I have a feeling the liquid one will be too runny...so I think the Purelan is the thing...it's modified Lanolin- that's probably what makes the perfect consistency |

You can buy pure lanolin very reasonably at some (though not all) health food stores. It is very thick and dense, so you need a microwave to "melt" it soft enough to apply.
It has worked miracles on my lips, but also my eternally ragged, gross cuticles.
Lanolin comes from sheeps wool. If you have ever touched an organic wool sweater, the waxy, almost oily texture of it is the natural lanolin that is almost always removed first to make clothing in North America.
Ask for the organic brand; it is removed from the wool by boiling. Regular lanolin is dissolved by chemicals, and it is the chemicals used to remove it from the wool that many people (Debra, I suspect) react to.
A tub of the stuff will last you a lifetime. |

OK my lanoline arrived yesterday and I'm glad to say, its got a good consistency - not watery at all, but more like "shampoo", in that it doesn't run all over the place when you pour from the bottle.
I've only tried it on my lips so far. Once last night and again this morning with good results. Usually I wear Lip Fusion a.m. and p.m., but when I woke up this morning, my lips didn't look any different than when I have used LF. This is a good thing, now I can alternate LF with Lanoline and save some money
Haven't tried it on my hair yet but since its "waterproof" I'm a bit chicken - what if it won't wash out!!!

I don’t blame you for being cautious. Judging by the consistency of *my* jar of lanolin, I’m reminded of a story from my youth:
When we were in junior high, one of my friend’s mother’s gave my friend a home permanent. Apparently Mama left one of the chemicals on Kim’s hair too long and really fried her hair, turned it into a real frizz ball. What did Mummy use to try to de-frizz poor Kimmy’s hair? She slathered the hapless child’s hair in Vaseline and forced her to go to school like that! I’m sure you can imagine the torturous teasing that she had to endure....Kim had to shampoo her hair like 100 times in a row with dish-washing detergent (!) before she was finally able to get all the petroleum jelly to wash out! |

I just got the solid version of Lanolin from iHerb.com, and mine is actually really good. I live in warm humid Miami, so I'm thinking that that might be why mine has a really good consistency? It's perfectly spreadable, loks great on my lips, doesn't smell...but I don't have any cats, so I can't comment on that part
I still use it in my hair with great results. Just a drop-size spread out in my palms and then smoothened over my hair and ends, makes my hair soooo shiny and protects my fragile ends. But just a little is the key.
I'm going to experiment and add essential oils and vitamin E oil to my Lanolin, but this is by far the best lip-balm/gloss I've ever used! |

I live in HOT, humid Texas (it's still 98 degrees here for crying out loud!!) and mine was still too hard and unspreadable so maybe that means that I got a crappy batch?? |

product_junkie,
where can i find organic lanolin?
i searched the web, and though '100% natural' (whatever that means ) is widely available, organic one is another story.
thanks for sharing |

happyhippie, thank you for thinking about other people. That's my opinion about ths product. I really like it as well as a lot of people. It's my website, I work as a beauty consultant, but you don't have to bye it, ok.
I'm really picky about scincare and mak-up, and the rason, I do MK, I really believe in it, that's it. I sold a lot of those sets, my women like it.
And I'm sure the stuff that you talking about is also great! But everybody has right to choose, right. Let's be friends. |

I've been using Vaseline's Lip Therapy at night. The only ingredient other than flavor is petrolatum. I had read a study of lip balms, and it said the ones with petrolatum worked, where the others tested didn't. It does a fairly good job. Since petrolatum doesn't penetrate, but sits on top, it seems to go only so far.
Zim's Crack Creme Lip Formula hasn't impressed me. It has petrolatum, Lanolin Alcohol, Mineral Oil, etc.
I just picked up Chap Stick's All Natural, which has shea butter and jojoba extract.
I also picked up Blistex Lip Infusion. It's main ingredient is 13% Lanolin, with sun screen, and jojoba as a second to last ingredient. The roller ball applicator feels really good as it applies the liquid. I think it might be my new favorite. I picked all these up at Walgreens and none were too expensive. |

Since you seem to be a fan of “drugstore” lip balms, check out my 99¢ fave from Walgreens called “Cococare Cocoa Butter Lip Balm.” It comes in a bright yellow tube and you can usually find it in a bucket one the bottom shelf in the skin care/body lotions aisle. This has quickly become my favorite “el cheapo” lip balm and I keep tubes of it everywhere (home, car, office, friends’ homes, other places I frequent).
For the record, the ingredients for the Cococare lip balm are: petroleum, C18-36 acid triglyceride, C18-26 acid glycol ester, cocoa butter, aloe vera extract, fragrance, proplyparaben and butylparaben.
So far, this is the best “bargain buy” lip balm that I have tried! |

Agreed.
I'm hopelessly in love with the Cococare. I usually have around 6 lip products on me at a time and I freak out if I can't find my Cococare. It doesn't dry out my lips, makes them look lusciously soft, and costs 99 cents! Love it!
But I can't leave it in my car!
It's not all waxy so the thing melts away to nothing if you abandon it. |
