I use only 'natural' products, so:
most effective is Ecco Bella, but not so pure
best overall is Dr Hauschka, so far, but I've had better mascaras |

I always return to my two favourites:
Flex WP from Lancome
Spectacular Mascara from Rubinstein |

At the moment I am using Tesco longlash which is good as it's not clumpy. |

Ditto to chimera's Ecco Bella. It applies nicely, with no clumping and looks natural. Ecco Bella brown is the most true, natural brown I've ever tried....and I've tried lots! The cost is between drug store brands and department store brands....around $12.00 US.
Estee Lauder XL is another fav. This forumula becomes dry in the tube too quickly, in my opinion, for the cost and the number of applications I get before it dries and becomes a challenge to apply. I will buy this occasionally before special events, because it applies so nicely, stays soft and looks freshly applied at the end of my work day! (The true test)
Lancome Definicils and the Cils Booster is an old stand by for me. I do like the waterproof formula during summer months.
The one mascara that I carry in my bag or laptop case is Maybelline's lash discovery. I use this if I do need a touch up during the day, or if I'm running late for work and need to apply something quickly in my office before my boss drops by! |

I absolutely LOVE L'Oreal Double Extend mascara. I don't get clumps and it makes my lashes look noticeably longer. My coworker remarked on them so often that I bought her a tube and she absolutely loves it. My best friend uses it as well, and we all agree it's the best mascara we've used. We're talking serious lashes here!!
The only downside is that I feel it dries my lashes out a bit, but I do use it 6 days a week, without fail. |

BeneFit BadGal..
It replaced my MAC one since that would sporadically make my eyes puffy and itchy. With BadGal, I can wear it all day and my eyes show no signs of puff or itchiness in the morning. It also does not at all interfere with my contacts which I wear 24/7.
But apart from not irritating my eyes, it makes my eyelashes HUGE!!! Sometimes when I put a couple of coats on, it looks like I'm wearing falsies
Edited - it only comes in black though but it's a beautiful black. |

My favorite mascara is MAC Prolonglash. It does a good job of lengthening the lashes with out making them too thick. It washes off easily with water and facial cleanser.

I like blinc kiss me mascara.
It goes on quite wet so it doesn't clump. It stays put until you tug the little tubes off. The downfall is that it's not compatible with primers (but I hear they have their own and some places offer a volumizing version) and is a bit pricey. |

I've just discovered this, too, and now my Maybelline ones have been neglected (and soon to be tossed!) You're right, it does give 'serious lashes'! I can't wait to get my Lucia and Ardell, and see how my lashes would look with LDE. |

Hmmm - with my colouring this is a tough as most black or dark brown mascara looks too harsh for everyday but I need something as my lashes are fair. I usually use either Lamas Lash Masque on its own or under Just For Redheads Mascara or Stila Mascara in Taupe! Lovely and natural but adds colour and definition and no clumping.

This is funny that this post popped up, because I have been researching/trying to find a better mascara. I've been using Bobbi Brown, but it runs at the drop of a hat, and I CRY at the drop of a hat!!! I need something that is not-too-tough on the lashes, but has severe staying power/is waterproof. Any suggestions? |

Hands down, KISS ME ... the most awesome mascara made.
I bought mine from EDS but the "Kiss Me" company is actually here in Tokyo.. however, whilst the company name is Kiss Me, the don't do the exact "Kiss Me" brand mascara.
They make about 10 different mascaras, many of them fibre ones, ranging from around $8.50 - $12 (US) each. I am still trying to track down some of their other brands here to compare, but in the meantime I am trying "Fiberwig" another Japanese brand of mascara that is the little tube types. It is not as good as KISS ME I got from EDS though! |

Another vote for Kiss Me mascara from me also. It doesn't flake, or smudge. It find that it's not great at giving more dense long lashes, but it's a wonderful mascara that looks very natural. I love how the tubes come off and that it can be taken off with just warm water! I've got it in a purple shade which gives a nice "barely there" purple tinge in the sun. |
