Scotslass-thanks so much for sharing your knowledge on this. It is such a fascinating procedure and scary to think about trying w/o some first time advice at the same time. Yet I rushed right out and bought one of those babies, so how sick am I. Yes, I want to needle my face too ( like a kid raising their hand frantically in the classroom)!
You girls have been a wealth of insight and humor. |

I am more and more intrigued with the idea of using a roller to push in products. (NOT the 1.5 but the little guy!). |

You're very welcome, Annie. The derma roller procedure(s) and anticipated anti-aging results have become quite a passion for me, I must admit - LOL! In fact this what I tend to look like after a good rolling session: I may be red-faced for several hours (for more than one reason! ), but I'm giddy with happiness all the same! So I fully understand why you rushed out and bought a roller before you considered all the nuances of using it, as the promise of what this amazing little tool can do for your skin can easily have you clamouring to join the flocks of other skin-needling-fanatics in a flash! |

The smaller rollers are ideal for creating "channels" that will deliver your topicals and actives significantly deeper into your skin. I have read studies and articles that state the percentage of penetration is upwards of 4000% more, which is absolutely astounding to me! So you will definitely gain WAY more benefits from your products if you prep your skin with a derma roller first. |

ScotsLass, thank you so much, your posts are so informative!
when using dermaroller for pushing the products further - should I use it first on clear skin, then apply a product, or should I apply a product and then roll it in? |

You're so welcome, Aiva! I don't know what kind of products you intend to use with your roller or how tollerant your skin is, so I would suggest you experiment on a patch of skin on your face for a wee bit to see how that goes. At the moment I have been using a 1.0 mm roller on clean skin as a prep technique two nights a week before I apply my evening products. However, I am not rolling the products in after I've applied them and have not attempted to do so at this stage (I have sensitive skin and need to go rather slowly right now ). I do intend to try this method out further down the road though!
I have read several articles that say it is perfectly fine to do a quick roll on clean skin first, then apply your product, then roll on top of the product for additional penetration. This method creates micro-channels for the product to sink into upon initial application before you roll again to push everything that much deeper. If you applied a product on top of clean skin that wasn't briefly rolled first, I believe you will still deliver some product deeper in your skin, but not nearly as much as you would by having the skin prepped with a quick roll beforehand.
Just keep in mind that the extra 'push' of any products may inflame your skin to a degree depending on what you are using, or it may trigger some peeling the next day. Generally speaking, the products that are most often rolled into the skin are vitamin treatments or hyaluronic acid serums. In other words, products that help the skin fight against free radicals or plump it up. I have not come across any document that supports the idea of rolling a copper peptide product, l-ascorbic acid, or retin-a cream into the skin. So please take care of what you intend to use should you try the push technique with your roller.
Once you've finished a 'push roll' you will need to take some extra time to clean your roller in order to remove any product residue that adheres to the needles, as this can encourage bacteria to form on the roller head.
Hope this gives you some ideas of how you might want to approach the prep versus push techniques with your roller, Aiva. Hope you have lots of success with whatever method you end up trying, too!
**Note** - Though I am using a 1.0 mm roller as a product prep tool, the needles on this size penetrate the skin closer to 0.7 mm, and not at the full 1.0 mm depth. This is why I opted for this roller as a prep tool instead of the 0.5 mm size, which actually penetrates closer to 0.3 mm. |

Hi Scotslass
Maybe you can answer this, since I think you've prob been using your roller a while:
How long can the roller be used effectively before the pins get too dull to enter the skin? I'm using the L&R roller.
TIA

After i had my first child i have stretch marks on my butt and stomach. tried many products, derma roller works the best so far.
ps, don't buy the needle length shorter than 0.5mm, only penetrate the epidermis, which don't work. ebay sells the better ones. I bought 2.0mm from this ebay seller (twodownson)
Just search in ebay for seller ID "twodownson"
his price is the lowest, trust me i compared it all... and good quality i would say.
Good luck to you ladies, hope i helped. Share you succesful stories with me~ |

I'm trying to understand all there is to know about the Dermaroller. The Leaf & Rusher "dermaroller" is not the original "dermaroller", as I understand it. Since there are many fakes out there, how can you be sure that the L & R "dermaroller" is as good as the original? Thanks to anyone who can clarify for me. |

To my knowledge, the Leaf & Rusher dermaroller was the first dermaroller available for purchase in the USA. It is .15mm long. When people refer to the original Leaf & Rusher, they are referring to the original model that Leaf & Rusher offered.
Recently Leaf & Rusher upgraded their dermroller - it is a Dr. Roller model and is also .15mm. EDS has it for sale:
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/leaf-rusher-txroller-derm-p_9240.htm
It seems that Leaf & Rusher has an exclusive on this length size since Jack hasn't been able to get this length from Dr. Roller (he offers EDS members discounts on other Dr. Roller lengths). See the thread of Discounts on Dermarollers for more info on discounts/coupon codes, sales, etc.:
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=29392&start=0
So, both the original Leaf & Rusher and the new Leaf & Rusher are .15mm long for use to promote product penetration.
I hope this helps answer your questions. |

I'm still confused as how damaging the top layers of your skin helps anti ageing what kind of results are/have people having? |

The Leaf and Rusher length (.15mm) up til .5mm dermarollers are to help product penetration by creating channels in the skin to allow the product to go deeper. The dermarollers that are .75mm are to assist in collagen production - yes, by injuring the skin and forcing it to produce more collagen thru the healing process.

No, I didn't get the 1.5 from L&R. Or the .5 one, for that matter. I shopped around and got less expensive ones. L&R's merely convinced me to get them, not necessarily theirs. |

Leaf & Rusher only sells a .15mm length dermaroller. |

I am on a constant quest to find something to get rid of these shallow acne scars. so at .15 mm (the Leaf & Rusher), I need one 10x longer, so to speak, at 1.5 mm. I know there are several dermaroller posts and I haven't been able to read them all yet, but please if someone has a current link on where to get 1.5mm (or larger, what the hay, I'm a glutton for punishment) please let me know. I just started CP use and I've been using vitamin A products half my life, I think. I'd like to find something to "rev up" my routine. Please PM me if you've had good results on atrophic or pitted scars with this. I may have my husband get me one for Valentines day, how romantic! |
