Hi,

can anyone reccommend a good smoothing shampoo & conditioner?? I have wasted money on Nexxus stuff and kerastase and Tigi with no effect, my hair is wavy, dryish and is coloured with brown and blonde. The only thing i have had good results with is L'oreal Tec Ne Art Smoothing stuff which u put on before blow drying but they dont do a shampoo and conditioner to go with it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

nic

Hi,
I use and love tigi ego boost leave in conditioner to straighten my naturally curly hair. It is a leave in that helps to smooth and keep the fly aways under control. It doesn't have a sticky or greasy feel which for me is a real bonus.

Hi Tidieu,
I get mine from my hair salon so would assume most carry it. If I can get it living in the boonies it must be available easily lol.

Redken All Soft. It does not specifically claim to smooth, but this stuff is super-rich.

I have heard great things about hemp-based shampoos and conditioners. The hemp has a natural moisterizing effect. My guess is that this would help with smoothing.

My other thought is that, unlike skin care, I'm not so sure that different shampoos and conditioners make all that much difference... at least in my experience. I think you might be better off focusing on the products that you apply when the hair is damp. I LOVE Graham Webb's shine serum in the blue bottle. I also bought my dad liquid pomade for his very thick, coarse, wavy hair and he swears by it to hold and refine. Otherwise, he looks like a crazy man if he hasn't had a cut in a while. Think Don King. Laughing

Hi there - Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny line of shampoo, conditioner and serum are superb for flattening out the hair cuticle without weighing the hair down or turning it into a sticky mess. I highly recommend it. A very close second are the Matrix Smoothing System products - go easy with this line - it's really concentrated stuff - and is an excellent wave relaxer. The PM Super Skinny line is not so much a relaxer as it is a smoother and tamer - great stuff.

hi nickyl,

Maybe we have similar hair. Things like Nexxus and Redken All Soft, while they are moisturizing, they are still not enough. The best I have found is Kerasilk from Goldwell. Mixing olive oil in All Soft also helped. I have also had good luck with Japanese Wella...not so helpful to you though perhaps. Smile

Hi Nicky Smile I have thick wavy chemically treated hair that tends to frizz a lot. I tend to switch brands but for the past two years I have been happy with the Biolage Color Care shampoo and Ultra Hydrating Balm. I'm looking to try the Ultra Hydrating shampoo to match the balm soon.

My hair stylist gave me a great tip to maximize the effects of conditioners - after shampooing, squeeze out as much water from your hair as possible then use a towel to mop up more moisture till your hair is almost dry, then apply conditioner. Apparently when hair is wet the hair shaft is filled with moisture and the conditioners can't be absorbed. I've had great results since I started doing this, makes me wonder now if the stuff I gave up using would have worked better with this strategy. HTH
