i've been using the Dr. H CC for a couple days now... i'm quite happy with the results... i did 2 batches... first one with almond, water, and tea tree oil (and a little jojoba oil)
and the second batch i left out the tea tree oil...

the first batch it lasted about 3-4 days in room temperature

but the second batch got bad after the second day in room temperature!!

i remember carekate said she didn't put hers in the fridge neither?!...

how do u guys store your homemade Dr. H CC??
and wut do you use to preserve it? thanx!

Hmm. strange. I've had mine for a couple of weeks and it's still fine. I did put quite a bit of witch hazel in mine though so that could be it? Also, if I remember correctly, I think I put a drop or 2 of tea tree oil (but I could be wrong). Maybe you should try the fridge afterall?

Hi aprilha,

I had that happen to the first batch I made ... it went moldy ... but I had made it using almonds and additional oil ... plus I used almond meal rather than getting raw almonds and grinding them.

I then read where someone said that adding oil wasn't necessary ... providing you ground the almonds long enough ... and then using a "morter and pestle" approach, got the mixture fine enough. Doing that, you get to use the oil in the nuts themselves. Then it's just a matter of using distilled water and witch hazel. [I use the witch hazel without alcohol.]

So far, this second mixture has been fine. In fact, it's working great ... and I've been leaving mine on the bathroom counter for the last week ... although prior to that I did have it in the fridge. The problem with having it in the fridge is that it takes so much longer to get a nice mixture when you add the water to it.

It could have something to do with how warm your bathroom is ... or how humid ... or it could be the added oil.

Given the ingredients, it really shouldn't be necessary to refrigerate it ... but perhaps, in your case, it is.

Mary

thanks mary,

i grinded mine with raw almonds and until the "natural oil" came out... i added some water (not distilled) and a little jojoba oil (because i heard somewhere that it acts as a mild preservative?

thanks anyways..
i'll play around... with smaller batches and maybe add my tea tree oil in again?

April.

Hi Aprilha,

If there was mold, it's bacteria growth ... and tap water does have bacteria in it. That could be your problem right there.

I can get a huge jug of distilled water for $ .99 ... but if you can't find it in your area, I'm sure boiled water would work.

I think boiling kills bacteria ... doesn't it?

I don't have any essential oils in my batch at all. [Don't have any tea tree oil on hand!

Good luck

Mary
