Hi - I have read the recipe posted for Vit. C Serum to rival the one put out by Cellular Skin. There was even a link to the website to purchase the Lysorbic Acid (Vit.C) crystals needed. However, when I went to the link,a bottle of "Ascorbic Acid" came up and it was a powder form. The recipe states to be sure it is pure Vit.C., etc. but makes no mention that it will be called Ascorbic Acid as opposed to Lysorbic Acid. Are they one and the same and is the bottle that pops up when the site is accessed the Vit C. that is to be used? Thanks! |

I'm not at all sure exactly what "lysorbic" acid is ... but you do want to look for "l-ascorbic acid".
Now ... very often it will be marked "ascorbic acid" ... but you want to ensure that the "ascorbic acid" is in "l-ascorbic acid" form.
I know it's confusing, however, while "l-ascorbic acid" is the active form of "ascorbic acid". When l-ascorbic acid degrades, it becomes d-ascorbic acid ... which is inactive.
Some manufacturers actually mark their vitamin C crystals as l-ascorbic acid. The Personal Formulator does. Most, however, mark the product only as "ascorbic acid".
It's very confusing, I know ... and there have been numerous discussions on this board about it. Even some of the scientific sites seem to use the terms "l-ascorbic" and "ascorbic" interchangeably.
The bottom line is that you need to ensure that the "ascorbic acid" that you are purchasing is in the active "l-ascorbic" form. This is usually confirmed by contacting the manufacturer.
I hope I haven't made things more confusing for you ...
