I have a scar on the left side of my face from my younger days with acne. I tried a cream called elicina but it has really had any affect. I need a cream to restore my natural skin colour. Any suggestions? Help would be appreciated. |

Hi!!
This is always tricky, is the scarring just that the colour of the skin is different or is there actual scarring, pock marking/indentations?
The former is easier to deal with and is Post inflammation hyperpigmentation and is the skins normal reaction to inflammation. This mark can range from pink throught to almost black dependign on you skins colour.(I tend to get purpley/pink marks on my fair skin for example)
For PIH, Vitamin C is good at improving overall skin tone and brightness and I know some users of the forum have said its help with redusing unevenness and hyper pigmentation. A good exfoliator or home dermabrasion is a must also, as is sunscreen. You could also try a whitening product ( there's lots available), some contain hydraquinone or kojik acid which are bleaching agents but can cause rebound pigmentation! You could also try a natural range such as decleors white/bright range.
For indentations or pock marks, exfoliation/dermabrasion can help soften the look and gettting your skin into the best possible condition will minimise the look of the scars. If they have damage the dermis though there's not a lot you can realistically do cosmeticaly -perhaps visit a dermatologist for more sugegstions (you can have them injected with a filler for example).
Prevention of future spots is key - the skin never fully recovers from the ravages of real acne.
I'm sure other members will have loads of other helpful suggestions too - they are lovely on here! YOu can also try a search - I'm 100% sure this has been asked previously!!
There's also a great article on PIH/scarring onwww.Dermadoctor.com.

Gosh where to start!! There's so many great product ranges out there! I can only really recommend what I've used with success, not seeing you're skin and not having tried every product - it depends on your skintype.
But here goes -
For exfoliation/home microdermabrasion I like Epidermx/Microdermx (same product different packaging!)
Vitamin C - PSF, Skinceuticals or Vivier are all good ones, Skinceuticals is a more 'watery' texture so better for oily skin.
Skinceuticals Phyto + serums/gels are good as is the Decleor white bright range - I've not had any experience of other whitening products but there are loads of folk on here who have and there's been lots of posts about it - try a search on whitening.
I like Sunscreen SPF 50+ by Avene - its photostable and a nice texture.
Another route you could try is Glycolics - MD Formulations do a brilliant range - these exfoliate, brighten, improve skin tone and soften marks and scarring over time and stimulates collagen. YOU MUST WEAR AN SPF WHEN USING GLYCOLICS.
Everything except the Epidermx/Microdermx and Avene is available from EDS.
Does that help?
Oh before I forget - some people have great sucess with Copper Peptides (CP serum - again do a search)I've not used them myself but again a search will bring you up loads of reults! The disadvantage is you can get the 'CP uglies' for a while as the skin remodels - I've not beeen bave enough to try them but it depends on how much the scarring bothers you - it may be worth a go.
Remember to introduce any new products slowly and in turn not all together otherwise if you have a reaction you won't know which product caused it. A test patch behind the ear or inside of the elbow are good places to try new stuff - apply the leave for 24 hours before you use it on your face.
Does that help? |

Hi Interloper
I think Lucia covered it all pretty much, but I would like to add if you have indented scars (please do not be hurt by the expression)-"ice pick" acne scars, that are dented into the skin (instead of raised), a surgeon can do a procedure called a punch graft. |
