Hey Everyone,
So I've been using the DIY recipes (OCM, Dr. H CC, ACV Toner and Vit C) for like 5 days now. The first few days I was in love with my skin. Then I think on day 4 I started using a sample of MD Formulation's anti-aging lotion. I also did the aspirin mask last night. Well I noticed yesterday and today that I'm getting little whiteheads on my face! I'm not sure if it's the anti-aging lotion or Dr. H or what. I'm so sad! If it's purging b/c of Dr. H, how long does this last for?
Thanks,
Anna |

Could be the MDF. That product contains AHAs, I think, which can also purge your skin. Stop using the sample and just stick with the other stuff for the time being. Technically, I guess purging can last for about 3 weeks, as that is how long it takes for the crap to get pushed up to the surface. Give it that amount of time before you add in other things or decide that it isn't working. In the meantime, just use a spot treatment. Something that is easy and cheap is just teatree oil dabbed on with a q-tip. The aspirin mask will also help to dry everything up. I wouldn't be too aggressive though, or you will just agrivate your skin, and it could get angry...and worse. |

My question about purging and perhaps it will also help answer Anna's concerns: If you have clear skin without any "undergrounders" can you still purge? Although I love Dr. H cleansing cream I do get a few whiteheads which is unusual for me. After running out of the cleanser I don't seem to be breaking out. Could it be that Dr. H might be too rich for some? Certainly It is understandable that bumps under the surface of the skin coming to the surface is a good thing. Anna, if that is the case with you keep up what you are doing like faith suggested.
Anna once you added the MDF you started breaking out? Sounds like it might be that. |

hi Winnie,
Are you adding extra oil to your CC, or just using the natural oils for the almonds? I think sometimes, things might just be too rich for our skin. As well, and I know it seems simple, I think it is really important to use hot water to wash the CC off; just my opinion. Any residual oil left on your skin could cause a problem. |

Faith,
I always thought you had to add some oil to the almonds. I don't frequent the DIY thread often as I purchase most of my skin care. DR H receipt is one of the few I have made. At first I used olive oil an found it too rich. Last batch I added a little Avocado Oil. Would be most greatful if you have found the reason for those nasty whiteheads as I do love using Dr. H. |

No, you don't have to use extra oil. It is posted in the DIY thread somewhere in all those pages... I think you just need to keep grinding the almonds for longer, and then they will release their own oil. Or mash them after you grind them... Maybe someone else has some more experience with this. I hope it helps though! |

Thanks Faith & Winnie. I make mine with a little of olive oil, castor oil and jojoba oil. Then I added 3 drops of peppermint EO. Hmm..I'm gonna lay off the anti-aging lotion and give it 3 more weeks. I hope it's not b/c my CC has too much oil in it. I just hope my face clears up soon. |

Just to clarify... you are making the Dr H Cleansing Cream with 3 types of oil? If so, I would definitely say it is too much. If those are the oils you use for the oil cleansing method, then it is ok. |

| Anna, olive oil was way to RICH for my mature skin. It seems that my older skin type would accept olive oil better than your young complextion. IMO you should stay away from olive oil when making Dr. H. As far as castor oil I can't comment as I have never used it. Jojoba oil worked well but think I will try Faiths recommentation. |

I would like to join in this discussion since I read some Dr.H and interested with the line.
I went to sephora last nite and noticed a quote from Dr H product page. Here is what he said: "For daily ritual, do not use moizturizer during nite because it will counterproductive and the skin will not be able to produce its own oil". Anyway, I am interested in it because I felt that it's sort of making sense.
Anyway, I would like to know more what you guys are talking about. I am sort of lost in the acronyms you are using in this conversation.
Anybody cares to translate for me?
IMO?
OCM?
Dr. H CC? Is this Cleansing cream or cleaning milk?
ACV Toner ?
EO? |

| why do a person need purging skin anyway, like hayleighs_mom? Does it mean to clean the skin totally from all products? |

IMO = in my opinion
OCM = oil cleansing method
DR H CC = the cleansing cream
ACV = apple cidar vinegar
EO = essential oils
As for the no night time moisturizer... Yes, Dr H says that your skin should balance itself, and you should let the toxins out of your skin at night. It works for some... |

I don't really think we need purging, but sometimes there is stuff in your skin that gets forced out when you use active products. It would have eventually come up anyway, but sometimes you can speed it along. As well, sometimes your skin could just have a reaction to new products, so it is a good idea to give it a few weeks to allow for your skin to adjust. |

Winnie & Faith,
I stopped the MDF and the white heads seem to be disappearing. U know I swear I read somewhere that some others do add all those oils to their Dr. H. I think that is why I went ahead and did it. I am gonna experiment with my next batch and leave the oils out...well maybe with just a tad of jojoba oil.
I normally use all 3 oils for my OCM. Hey speaking of OCM, have u girls made yours only with Extra Virgin Olive Oil? I ran out of EVOO and only have plain ole Olive Oil at home.
Fishzebby, if you go to the DIY thread u will see the recipe for the homemade products we're talking about. OCM is an oil cleansing method- u literally use oil to clean your face. ACV Toner is a concoction of apple cider vinegar, green tea and essential oils-used after you cleanse. There's a homemade version of the Dr. H cleansing cream that u saw at Sephora. And also, there's a homemade version of the Vitamin C serum.

I had whiteheads after using the original Dr.HCC. When I asked my cosmetics lady why I had them she told me that I was using a rich product which my skin could not absorb and then the whiteheads came. She was funny in the way how she expressed herself, "Ah don't worry this is just fatness on your face". Geeez!
I can honestly say that ACV helped me to get rid of them.
Now I want to make homemade CC and I wonder if I can use Emu oil or not in the mix? |
